Bing's Twitter Account uses iphone

I think I've seen conversations on here about this kind of thing before. I recall the "reasoning" was that the developers use different types of devices for testing etc.

Which app are you using? I don't see it on the website

Honestly, who cares?

You guys are talking as if all Microsoft employees have the obligation to use WP devices as if it was some sort of mandatory duty. It isn't.

I won't look into what this really is, but if it is anything officially communicated by MS, then it counts as marketing, in which case they need to get their act together and at least feign support for their own products. It's unprofessional. What staff use privately however, that is their own business.

There is nothing really bad about such a screw up, but it is indicative of WP still being an isolated island that is not on managements map, which it must be if it is ever to succeed.

The act itself isn't that bad, but what it indicates is.

If it's not, It should be, when it involves customer-facing activities.

Precisely. It doesn't bode well for the Windows Phone OS when even Microsoft employees aren't using it, at least for public interactions. Personally, ok, use what you want. However, at the professional level, it should be strictly Windows Phone (aside from bug testing for apps and services offered on other platforms).

I remember a presentation made some years ago by some high-up in the chain... The laptop he used in said presentation? A Macbook Pro. No one cared, no one paid no mind. There was a pic circulating around 9gag or whatever it was, posted by someone trying to be funny. No one cared then, no one should care now. That's how I see it.

And BTW, the service in question is Bing. If it was something (more) directly related to WP, I'd understand, but Bing is multi-platform.

To each his own I guess.

I remember when WP first launched and Microsoft purchased all employees WP devices.

I wonder what happened to that program.

By how exactly is this a bad thing if this is more Bing related than iPhone. If it was the belfiore guy using an iPhone while discussing something windows phone related, I could see people getting all upset about it.

I seriously doubt all people who work for the various products of Microsoft solely use Microsoft products only. Same as I doubt that apple or google solely use those services provided by the company they work for lol

You are missing the point. It's not about what they use privately. It's about the message such incidents send, when its part of MS official communications.

Imagine going to a Ford dealership, and after spending a good hour trying to convince you a ford car is a great choice, you discern that the sales person personally prefers Toyota. Is anyone seriously going to claim nobody will be influenced by that?

It's not a perfect analogy, but the point shouldn't be difficult to grasp. Even if you aren't influenced by that yourself, it should be easy to admit that most would be.

It's likely that the offending twitter account is actually controlled by someone at MS' advertising/marketing agencies. For North America, that would be Starcom Mediavest I think.

The employees can use whatever they want for their personal lives, I don't care. It's just at the professional, public relations level, perhaps they ought to support their company's own offering, instead of its competitor? I can guarantee if an Apple employee sent out a tweet or Facebook post on anything but an Apple product, Tim Cook would have their head.

Image is everything, and this shows a preference for Apple products. If even Microsoft employees aren't willing to use Windows Phones, who will?

Most are idiots than. And that thing with the car dealership actually happened to my father once. Wasn't influenced.

Seriously... If someone is influenced to change their opinions that easily, than they shouldn't be allowed to choose anything in the first place because they're simply too immature to do it properly. Our choices are our own to make. From the moment we get influenced by someone else, it isn't our choice anymore.

Either way, like I said... It's Bing... If it was WP's official account it'd be more serious. Since Bing is available in other OS and has to work properly on them, I honestly don't think this is a that big of a deal.

A better analogy would be that at the Ford dealership the dealer recommends you use a specific car radio, but actually has a different one himself. WP is not the main thing you are "buying" from Bing, it's Bing. When it comes to phones, I think it's just a personal choice and there isn't just one phone that's perfect for everybody. So, if a Bing salesman prefers iOS, let him. This way he can also test if Bing works on this platform, it's a win-win.

I kinda get your point. Makes sense. To a degree, it makes sense for a company to not be so focused on self that it ignores competition. In the real world, people use IPhones.

On the other hand, I can see where a company would want to project confidence in its products by using them to engage with current and potential customers.
