buying at&t lumia 1020, can i unlock it and use it in israel!?

Hey all, i'm looking to buy an used 1020 from ebay, its at&t and i think it locked, i thought that I will flash it to amber(or any rom that I will find) after I get it, will it help? I have the 920 and it come with Vodafone rom( guess it imported to Israel from Germany or something) and I flash it whit the French rom that was here, I think it will be the same but not sure couse it's at&t.
here in Israel we have the UMTS(WCDMA) and GSM network (still not LTE) 2100, 850 ,1800, 900 MHZ

i suggest you buy an unlocked international version because you might have problems unlocking it. i bought it as well on ebay in order to use it in Israel and i still haven't unlocked it because there's no unlock code. so be careful.

For some reason, ATT Device unlock site wont unlock the Lumia 1020 anymore, and it's been removed from 3rd party unlocking service.

I don't get it, did I miss something?

I got mine from the Microsoft Store just two months ago and had it unlock from ATT, not it just said Device not supported.

as the other users have said buy an international version not att version as you will find it hard to unlock ;-)

Can you flash a country variant rom to an AT&T phone? I mean country variants are unlocked roms so maybe this can be the way to unlock every nokia windows phone...

flashing other rooms doesn't unlock the phone. plus you can't flash intensively variant room to an att variant phone.

Why? That was just what I do to upgrade to GDR2 earlier than it is released for my variant...

mate serious read the forums , use the search bar , the 1020 is different they have done something , the att 1020 is causing people much troubles debranding and unlocking it , why not just buy an international version?? it would be so much easier and come unlocked and debranded

Yes,buying the international version-RM 875 is the best idea.When i first wanted to get windows phone i did hear unlocking places had trouble getting AT+T Lumia unlock codes -that,s AT+T,s greediness for money!This is how greedy they are:to roam in Costa Rica or Columbia=$2.39/min,Canada= >40/min,to use my Costa Rica sim card=free incoming, outgoing= .07/min.Canada= .25/min.I would never use AT+T,T-Mobile is the way to go-$60 /month unlimited international talk/txt/data.I bought my international version in Costa Rica,could have got it from Amazon but i like to see the product before i put out that much money so i bought it from a friend of a friend there that knows an electronics store owner.Here,s the deal-the store i got my Lumia 1020 from told me the 2 versions are identifiable 2 ways1) by designation,RM875 is international RM877 is AT+T (2)AT+T logo comes on screen when powered up and is also on top corner of phone. .Also i was told an unlocked AT+T still has their software which disables some features phone was made to perform,was told of 2: AT+T version disabled wireless charging and some music transfer have trouble.

Seems i was lucky than..

Bought mine end of September in a Microsoft Store in San Francisco for 609$ without contract, during my holidays. They told me i have to call AT&T to get the unlock code since i wanted to use it back home in Germany.

The call took around 45 minutes and i talked with 3 different people and explained the situation and finally i got the unlock code
Phone works great here in Germany, except ofc the LTE since we have different bands.
