Can a Lumia 1020 from AT&T work on Verizon?

I recently purchased a Nokia Lumia 1020 AT&T and thought if I unlocked the phone & get a new Verizon SIM card it would work. It didn't. Does anybody know how I can overcome this issue? Is there a way to root the phone or replace the Windows Operating System to a different version that would work with Verizon? I'd appreciate any help.

Well for one Verizon it's cdma and at its GSM. But I think if you are in a newly farmed area it could work.
