how long have you installed it on your pc?.....sometimes giving it time and /or right clinking a few time will make it work

Since the installation of Windows 10 build 10049 I did not use any of the old building before you install 10041 and you update to 10049 in the arena

I don't think you needed to be on 10041 before to go to 10049.

Anyway, my system is running better today as oppose to yesterday...

got to go to work now

When I first installed W10 on my laptop (core 2nd gen I7, 6GB ram, decent video card) I was shocked at how badly it performed......until I updated the drivers. It was the difference between night and day. It went from slow and laggy to fast and smooth.

I had this problem too in build 9926 and now in 10049. Start menu just does not launch .

Here is how to fix it:

Go to Action Center, and activate Tablet Mode. Try if Start Menu works and come back to "normal mode".
If don't work: Open PowerShell as Admin and try this:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

and press enter

I had the same problem, my start menu didn't work at all. However I also had a problem starting Outlook. This is what worked for me:

Run RegEdit
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Cache
Change the value to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

I found the solution at the below locations, because I was also having an issue launching Outlook.

Could not create the work file. Check the temp environment - Microsoft Community

and

Fix for error: Outlook could not create the work file - Powlo's SharePoint Treats - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Hope this helps.

My issue has something to do with the apps. I have installed 10049 5 times now and as soon as I start installing apps, the start menu quits working. I have asked for help from Microsoft and nothing has come back yet. I love my surface, but I have 2 options- install apps that do not work or do not use apps.
