can I set up folders that just refer to files in another location

I have a large database of sound files organised by manufacturer. I would like to order those into categories eg Strings, Metal, Wind etc. that I can then search using other programs. I do not want to make multiple copies, I just want to make a reference to the original files

Is this possible?

Perhaps, try using the Google search engine, cause I'm not really sure. Good luck! You may just have to organize it into separate folders, which sucks.

Is this possible?

If those are audio files go to the properties of those individual files and change the genre/album/artist with whatever details you want. After that you can easily sort them/group them by category in the file edgier explorer without making multiple copies. Let me know if it works.
