Charging Icon

Hi, I recently bought my first windows phone, the Lumia 630, and love the experience. I am slightly confused (sorry if its stupid), does the charging icon always alternate between the charging icon and the normal battery icon? It happens whenever I plug the phone and I don't want to damage the battery. Thanks for the help
