Not really surprised since ATT seems to be the only carrier that's really interested.

Yeah. That is interesting. I wonder if that at&t exclusive is really true.

Here is a link to the original story...

Microsoft's new Lumia phones are exclusive to AT&T in the US - CNET

The Redmond, Washington, company earlier Tuesday unveiled the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which are positioned as the flagship smartphones using its Windows 10 software. When they hit the US market in November, they will only be available through AT&T, according to a Microsoft executive.

Also from the article...

AT&T confirmed it would be carrying the Lumia 950, but didn't mention the Lumia 950 XL.

I was sooo disappointed to read that article. I think it's a mistake. Unless they consider offering a finance option like Apple and Samsung, I don't see them selling many unlocked devices from the MS store. $650 is a big pill to swallow all at once.

I really wanted the XL but I guess I'm sticking with LG G4 for now.

The fact that Microsoft will be selling an unlocked version of the phones means they are an at&t exclusive only in the sense that at&t is the only carrier that will carry them. If it were a true "exclusive" deal, MS would not be able to sell an unlocked version.

This. In fact, I wonder how much cheaper the ATT locked version will than the direct unlocked version. If possible, I won't have an AT&T locked phone again. It would have to be like $200 cheaper, but I would still buy it outright, so I could unlock it right away anyways.

It will be able to be used on multiple carriers, just AT&T will have a branded version, with their labels and bloatware on it.

I still don't know enough about the CDMA bands to know if it will work on Verizon. Seems like it has plenty of those in it.

If it is true they will fail again. I wanna buy unlocked. Sooo I'm going to buy a Android or iPhone for my TMOBILE upgrade

They need to do like Galaxy Phones. they are everywhere

The 950/XL do not support Verizon's CDMA network. CDMA and WCDMA are not the same thing. Bing/Google the difference between the two. The 950/XL will not work on Verizon, if these specs are correct.

GSM network: 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz
GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 296.0kbps
GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8kbps
WCDMA network: Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 2 (1900MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850MHz), Band 8 (900MHz)
WCDMA max data speed DL: 42.2Mbps (Cat 24)
WCDMA max data speed UL: 5.76Mbps (Cat 6)
LTE FDD network: Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 17 (700MHz), Band 2 (1900MHz), Band 20 (800MHz), Band 3 (1800MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850MHz), Band 7 (2600MHz), Band 8 (900MHz), Band 28 (700MHz), Band 12 (700MHz)
TD-LTE network: Band 38 (2570-2620MHz), Band 40 (2300-2400MHz), Band 41 partially (2555-2575 MHz)
LTE max data speed DL: 300 Mbps (Cat 6)
LTE max data speed UL: 50 Mbps (Cat 6)

Bummer for Verizon folks then, at least for now. It's a little hard to believe that Verizon wouldn't have it at some point, but maybe they won't.
