Hello, have been playing with a mates windows phone, he has a Nokia 920 32GB

Initial thoughts are, fluid, interesting and dynamic UI, with superb twitter integration, love the black background with white text through out, quality made device as well...

But I am a heavy iSO/Android app person, who has spent a fortune on them, some are brilliant others useless, but a few stand out and are a must for me.

I use Endomondo and RunKeeper all the time for logging my crazy running sessions, but my mate tells me you cant get runkeeper is this true?
I also use OS map software that can load Ordinance Survey walking maps of the UK, would this be something available on WP?
Games are not an issue as I will be keeping my trusty Android Nexus 7
Facebook integration is nice on my mates Nokia, alas one thing that really is stopping me getting a WP is the lack of notifications, I would be lost without them, I have read that a new update will include these, should i wait and see if the new notifications are any good, before buying?
I gather the Nokia 920 is an old phone now, so if I went for one of these would it last till next year, or will Microsoft drop support?

Sorry if these questions have been asked time and time again.

Use this site to check weather your favorite apps are present in WP8: Overview | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)
Also, WP8's notification center aka Action Center looks much better than its Andriod/iOS counterparts.
And don't worry about continued support. Even devices like L520 is future proof.

You don't need to worry about support, you will be supported even on a 920 for a while yet. You can get running apps on your phone but you might have to ask around to find out the best ones. Same situation with ordnance survey. Notifications are coming in 8.1 too.

Don't be afraid to ask questions around the boards!

Endomondo is there for WP8. Runkeeper was on WP but they stopped supporting it back in 2012 and pulled the app. The app might come back as WP is gaining user base.

You'll find the Windows Phone versions of Endomondo and RunKeeper are pretty bad compared to iOS, so you may be in for a bit of a surprise. Shameless plug: If you're into running, you should definitely try out Track Runner (trackrunnerapp.com) - it's probably the best and full-featured running app for Windows Phone.

Gosh, nice to be welcomed, alas reading the fact my favourite two apps, Endomondo is crap and Runkeeper doesn't exist, is a real downer and now all this negative response to 8.1, i think I will stick with my Iphone for now, unless im reading all this wrong.

The only exercise app you need is Bing Health And Fitness. It also syncs with the windows 8 app, so I can see my stats on my Phone, PC or Surface. I use it everyday to track my walking.

Welcome to WPCentral! There's definitely nothing wrong with the 920; it's an awesome phone that will still be fresh a year from now. I say go for it!

Welcome to WPCentral, looks like you are finding your way back from time to time, haha.

You also have to remember to put the WP8.1 feedback into perspective. It is a beta of an OS upgrade, so everything is thrown together with the expectation it is not yet 100% complete, and it is not specialized for the specific phone it is on...and it was shipped with the expectation it would be in the hands of people that know how to trouble shoot and can put up with a bug or two.

Uhhh... Negative response to 8.1? What? The only two things wrong with 8.1 are the music and games *apps*, which can be easily updated and are not part of the OS. I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker. And you could always find some good alternatives or third party apps for runkeeper or endomodo.

there's an ongoing public beta for Endomondo which looks promising. Don't much care for Runkeeper. Endomondo also syncs with MyFitnessPal, was using SportsTracker before..

OP, welcome, make Yourself at home

Give Runtastic a try? I know someone who absolutely swears on it, and he uses a Lumia 925.

Tried out both the N920 and the N925, everything about the N920 for me is better, I prefer the LCD screen, for me it is easier to view outside, love the weight of the device, feels like a phone should, fed up with lightweight plastic toy phones, a massive 32gb is fantastic and the eventual update to 8.1 looks superb, picking a new N920 up next week, thanks for your help
