consequences of changing app name

Hi devs,

I need to know if changing an app name in the store will reset the users who bought the app (if changing names is possible). I am somehow confused about this and I don't have the courage to do it, to try it out.

More specifically, lets say I have a paid app named "application" and I change it to "application 2" or any name. Will the users who bought the app, be able to download it or they have to buy it again, since it will be considered a new app?

Regards

I can't guarantee you, but if you can change it I'm ALMOST sure they won't have to buy it again

I'm with DBDev on this - as long as you publish it as an update to the current app, and not as a new app. Instance changed to 6Tag, so maybe contact Rudy Huyn and ask him to be sure. I didn't have to repurchase 6Tag after it changed from Instance (and no, I don't use Instagram - I only installed it to show an Android-using coworker who was concerned and I was trying to convince to buy WP ).

I'm 99% sure it won't. I once changed the name of my (then) latest development version of an app and forgot to set it back when I published it. This was a beta release, but it should be pretty much the same as far as I know :)

It would be very logical if the MSFT-allready-purchased validation is just looking at the app Id (guid) and not the app name.

When you change the name of your app, I know for sure that the app Id will NOT change (would be stupid if it did). Just tested this for you with a beta version of my app

I tried changing the name of an old app (it was migrated from Yalla Apps) because I don't want to maintain two versions, so I added "lite" to the old version and hid it instead. The users will still be able to download the app since they will have the same App GUID, as long as you published it as an update.
