Crashing messages app

Hi
Every time I use the default Windows phone 10 messaging app it crashes, tried restarting phone but it doesn't stop issue phone is up to date it's a Nokia 650 I think (wifes phone) plenty of free space on the phone tried quitting all open apps but still does it , its such s nuisance that she (wife) wants a new phone

Have you checked the Store app to see if there's any updates for the Microsoft messaging app? I would suggest going to the Store, tap downloads and updates, and tap check for updates. If there is an update, install it and then do a soft reset by holding down volume down + power buttons at the same time until the phone vibrates.
