Data used when connected to wifi?

Most of the advice on this thread is misinformed. WP can indeed (and does) use data and WiFi simultaneously. Yes its silly and other OSes don't do it. MS has an option to disable this but its availability is carrier/OEM dependent. Unlocked phones usually don't have this option.

I was having the same problem with extra data usage while on wifi but I figured it out! I get 6GB data with my monthly phone plan and I would still get alerts from my service provider that I was getting close to going over data while using wifi hotspots. I played around with phone settings and still couldn't figure it out until I saw in my "data usage" settings there is a little box next to "mobile data" that was check-marked and after I un-checked it (disabled it) a message popped up on my phone screen and said my phone data will no longer be used and will only be able to use internet/phone apps through a wifi hotspot connection. Hopefully this solves the problem so we don't get screwed with a giant bill at the end of the month lol.
