Not sure if DP related, but I suddenly have terrible cell reception on my 1020. The reception will fluctuate between 3-4 bars and one bar or completely off. First noticed it Saturday 6/21.

This happens both on Straight Talk (AT&T towers) and on T-mobile. Both SIMs work fine on my old iPhone, so it seems like this is either related to the Dev Preview or the phone hardware.

I've had the latest DP update installed for a while and reception was OK, so the fact that it suddenly happened makes me think it's a hardware issue. Any ideas?

Big bugs here. Nokia camera takes kind of an out of focus pics shouting landscapes (they just don't look sharp enough even in infinite mode), while Microsoft camera seems better 99% of the times. Battery is still an issue, big time, while in standby there is no problem, but using it is just crazy. Camera eats more battery in 2 minutes then an 10 minutes phone call (way more). 10 min phone call: up to 3 % battery life. 2 Minutes camera use, up to 5 % battery cost. 4 minutes Maps guidance (crazy) up to 12% battery cost (is maps useless in this way????, Yup it is). Nokia camera store more errors then actual pictures. The 5 mpx are saved but when comes to the 38 ones, that's another story. 4 out of ten(maybe even more) are saved like, gray, black or green 0 kb files or just 10mb corrupted files. This is really nasty. And last i occur. I see absolutely no difference between the cropped 5mpx pic and the 38mpx zoomed to the same scene. Where is that pureview they were talking about, where is that lossless zoom? I can pretty much take a 38 megapixel shot and is the SAME. Making this dual save useless and battery unfriendly. I don't know about the Microsoft camera app since there is no way i can see the origianl 38 ones. But they kind of seem more sharp and "pureviewed".

It would be nice if the OP also briefly stated what exactly happens after hard reset. Right now it says

when it's done you will see the same screens you saw when you first turned on your phone out of the box. You'll have to sign in with your Microsoft account again and start over.

My question: would a hard reset of my 1020 go back to a factory image of WP8.0, or would it start a clean install of the latest WP8.1 DP version that was on the device?

I'm starting to fear that with the issues I'm having with 8.1 and my Nokia 810 (occasional lock ups, data/WiFi morning connections refusing to work without a reboot), that it's going to become unusable since there is no firmware update on the horizon.

All thanks to you T-Mobile.

Why not go back to 8.0 then.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems. I never had any freezing problems before, and could go months (Lumia 920) without even doing a soft reboot. After the latest update to 8.1 developer preview I have to do at least two soft reboots per day, sometimes more, to get the phone to update emails, texts, etc. I never know if it is actually a working smart phone. So now this phone really is a Microsoft Windows product. The screen never locked up on me before, now it does frequently. That is usually how I figure out the email is not downloading. The sad part is that the latest update was probably not necessary for an L920. But it was an update and I wanted to stay current.

The good part - I hope - is that the phone worked great before, so - again I hope - that Microsoft can fix these issues and fairly easily. I use my phone for business and I need the email and texts to update, and the screen to not lock up on me.

I have also had a weird issue that has happened twice since the last update - all of my work email was apparently downloaded in one fell swoop. Like a month or more's worth. It was like the email was just turned on for the first time.

UPDATE: I uninstalled Clock Hub based on a good tip and all of my issues went away. It was that easy, and guess what it did not require a hard reset back to WP 8.0. Try it if you have similar issues and you have Clock Hub.

I don't get these people complaining about issues on pre-release sw... There's 2 components; the OS build & the vendor's fw, you cannot expect a seamless experience w/o a final release that combines them. If your experience is horrid then 1st; do a soft-reset, if that fails then, do a factory/hard-reset, failing that, flash back to 8.0, simple. Once 8.1 is out officially alongside the ODM's (e.g. Nokia, HTC etc) fw, you can expect a far more reliable experience. Certainly if it's a Nokia, not so much if it's something else, for reasons that have been explained many times before.

Re: [Official] Windows Phone 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

not sure if this has been mentioned before... internet explorer in 8.1 often closes? the tab once i switch to another application / leave my phone alone for a while, then promptly reloads when i switch back. the waiting is annoying, and sometimes it doesn't load back to the same place i was at before. not to mention it probably uses more data that way. am i the only one facing this issue?

When I try to change volume, whether or not headphones are plugged in, headphones are the only option. I cannot play music through my phone speakers, and unplugging headphones does not stop playback. Is anybody else seeing this?

This defect started in the 8.1 version before the current one (as of 6/23 7:34PM UTC+8). I am using a Lumia 1020 running Lumia Black firmware.

Re: [Official] Windows Phone 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

I have a periodic buzzing from my phone; any time the speakers make noise, and at other seemingly random times. Soft reset did not help, haven't tried hard reset yet. This happened after i turned the volume all the way up in the XBOX music app. (L928)

Also, sound not made when headphones are plugged in.

Re: [Official] Windows Phone 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

I had a previously problem that others have had where my typing freezes. I managed to narrow it down to my GMail account in the native firmware. I now use a GMail app and have no problems at all.

I have 2 problems with my Lumia 1020:

1. issue where YouTube website freezes up, home button doesn't work neither other buttons, then you hit power button to turn the phone off then turn on and it shows visual artifacts color? And there nothing you can do but soft reset your phone?!
2. The glance screen doesn't always work. Sometime it turn up side down and look like it got cut in half too.

P/s: The phone is pretty hot too

Hey guys,

Updated my Lumia 720 and have been using it for over a week now.
Everything looks great except a couple of things :
1) The "up next" is situated so close to the play/pause button that "now playing" is almost unseen :/
2) Music continues to play even after I exit the app. I have to manually press the stop button to stop the playlist.
3) Personally I liked the full screen thumbnails for songs on the previous version.
4) Phone settings UI is haywire. No categories or divisions. This makes it hard to navigate to a particular setting considering that this version packs more features. eg: the access point settings are nowhere near network settings but about 4 scrolls down after brightness, touch etc. :/
5) "Project my screen" doesnt work.

Otherwise i think its great! love the extra tiles and cortana offcourse! Hopefully these bugs will be checked in the final release.

With it being the oft-rumoured 24th June today, I was hoping for some firmware and software loveliness. But it appears i'm out of luck - no updates showing up today yet.
