Developer Preview 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

Seems like my 1520 can't hold a good reception, even my wife 625 on wp8 is better.. I hope this will be fix on official nokia cyan update

@mf_Yamato - I have the same problem with my Lumia 820. The network reception keeps dropping and for the first time since I bought the phone, it's dropping calls.

Another thing I've noticed, 3G connection is a disaster. Is almost like my phone is drunk and playing with the antennas. The signal strength changes in seconds and keeps changing. This causes horrible battery drain.

Yup.. Exactly the same for me....
My wife 625 can easily stand 24hours for single charge with mobile data onn all the time, but for my 1520, 16-18hours need to recharge.. This bugging me like hell...

Re: [Official] Windows Phone 8.1 Bugs and Defects Thread

Having to post this as I cannot find anyone else with this issue.

Lumia 920, on 8.1 preview, been hard reset and the problem persists.

The phone is occasiionaly producing very high pitch and very loud sounds either through the headphones when plugged in or through the speaker when they are not. It seems to trigger when the phone is going to produce a notification or sometimes without. I can be listening to music or podcasts (Podcast Lounge) and it nearly blows my head off, or it can be the screen lock sound, or even an incoming SMS.

A power off/on gets rid of the issue as once it has triggered, sounds no longer work. I just tried it now and suffered through it, put it back on wireless charge and the phone obviously wants to make the on charge sound, and all it produces is a short, but thankfully not loud, crackly sound.

It can go hours without an issue, or mere minutes.

Will consider a flash back to 8.0, but I have a sneaky feeling, as no one else seems to have this issue, that is it hardware related.

You're lucky to get 15 hours. With 3G on and continuous usage, my 820 gives me 2-3 hours. 3 days back, I was travelling long distances overnight. I put my phone in airplane mode at 12:00 at night with 51% battery charge. Woke up at about 5:30, battery charge-25%.
What could cause this?

device hardware,
625 4.7" screen 1520 6" screen
625 1.2 Dual core Processor 1520 2.2 Quadcore processor
625 5mp camera 1520 20mp camera,
though there is a slightly larger batt on the 1520 the screen is also not the same, 1520 has a 1080p screen and a 625 has a 480*800 so with all these differences in hardware its actually impressive that your 1520 is getting 15-18 hours on a single charge.

also go to battery saver and disable apps you dont use most of the time for background activity, i disabled most of mine on my 925 i am getting 14 hours on mine with just minimal usage, mostly phonecalls and at most 30min online

It might be because of an app running in the background. In my case, the battery life(standby time) was great in WP 8 days... Would lose only one percent even if I had data on got nearly 3-4 hrs. After 8.1 update( that's when I installed asphalt 8 too because I could move other apps to SD card) the drain was around 2% even in flight mode.
Recently when I uninstalled the game(a week earlier), the old battery life was back. Try uninstalling such unwanted apps or block them from running in the background. Hopefully it will fix your problem

that email issue change setting to get emails from anytime because i am fairly certain that the email is set to emails from the last 30 days, change to anytime. on mine i upgraded from a 620 to a 925 and i have my emails on all accounts from when i first opened the email back in 2010 on my phone.

has anyone noticed how call and sms filter is behaving recently? you cant add or delete numbers from the list, or am i doing something wrong?

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems. I never had any freezing problems before, and could go months (Lumia 920) without even doing a soft reboot. After the latest update to 8.1 developer preview I have to do at least two soft reboots per day, sometimes more, to get the phone to update emails, texts, etc. I never know if it is actually a working smart phone. So now this phone really is a Microsoft Windows product. The screen never locked up on me before, now it does frequently. That is usually how I figure out the email is not downloading. The sad part is that the latest update was probably not necessary for an L920. But it was an update and I wanted to stay current.

The good part - I hope - is that the phone worked great before, so - again I hope - that Microsoft can fix these issues and fairly easily. I use my phone for business and I need the email and texts to update, and the screen to not lock up on me.

I have also had a weird issue that has happened twice since the last update - all of my work email was apparently downloaded in one fell swoop. Like a month or more's worth. It was like the email was just turned on for the first time.

I had very similar issues with my 925 after 8.1 (random freezing which would require soft-reset). I finally decided to try a hard-reset and restore from backup. Since then, no freezing and better battery life. Seems too good to be true!

UPDATE: It's been 3 days or so since the hard reset and I've decided the battery life was unaffected (no improvement). I also had one over-night freeze, but this is still much better than before when the phone was freezing almost every night and a few times each day. So in summery, the hard reset seems to have mostly solved the random freezing/lockup issue.

I hate new music and video app. Because earlier when I used uc browser and YouTube downloader, I could send the downloaded items to music+video hub. But now there is no option to find them.

Yesterday the first problems.
First I must do a soft resert after a freeze for a lot of bacground open apps.
Then photoes canot be saved on sd card nor internal memory.
And with GMail i've a 80072F05 error :(
How to solve them?
Thanks a lot :)

Solved: soft reset changed data and time... and not automaticvally fixed *_*
I've just changed them and now... it works well :)

Lumia 820 , India.
After 8-9 days post installing 8.1 dp, I'm assuming the battery has settled.
It would drain like bonkers. Absolutely crazy! I had 51% battery, I started using tapatalk on 3G, with signal strength from 3 to 5 bars. It stopped 26% in 5-8 minutes! There are more of such tales of my phone battery blackmailing me, but I'll spare it.
I had a live account and a gmail, both set to as items arrive. I changed them to 1&2 hours respectively. I turned off location, Cortana(changed my region back to India) , and battery saver and its background service.
The battery life has improved, but its still nothing commendable, but something's better than nothing.

And just now I have turned off password sync and app sync, since I don't have any other windows devices.

Last days I'm getting "Loading..." or "Resuming..." for start screen after I unlock the device, and it's heating like crazy when it's happening. I need to wait like 20-30 seconds and everything becomes fine. It's happening like once in 1-2 days I guess.
I'll turn off Cortana, because I don't think anything else could cause it.

See this on my 1020 as well, it's definitely one of the more annoying things in the DP. Well, that and my phone just spontaneously breaking, but I'm thinking that's a coincidence.

The cell reception issue might be made on purpose by your carrier. I have read before some posts regarding mobile data restriction for WP 8.1 DP users from carriers, probably the same thing is with the reception.

i have a 520 and 8.1,when i try syncing with facebook through the facebook app it always says its unable to sync.Is there a way of doing this or is it just a problem since we're still using developer preview.

Please Help! On Lumia 920 when I'm listening to Music on my headphones and then someone calls me,the audio is stuck only on the left. This doesn't affect the phone's speaker. When I restart my phone I can hear again with both ears, until I get called again. It's not a big problem but it is very annoying

Hey, just found 2 bugs that were not listed.
1. When I connect to a Wifi network that needs a post-Login to connect to the Internet everything works fine until the point when I should really be connected. The Login page Shows me a success message but on the Wifi bar still stands "limited" and I'm still not connected.

I need to connect the router to the internet by logging in on an other device and then turn off Wifi on my phone. When I turn it on again it finally updates itself and I get internet access on my phone.

2. Connecting to the car via Bluetooth doesn't work good. My phone doesn't send the recent calls, dialed numbers or the phonebook to the radio in the car. But making a phonecall is still possible.
I use a standard Volkswagen radio ( RNS 310 - Kufatec Fiscon speakerphone ). I tried an other UHV too but got the same problem.

Hopefully these issues will be fixed until the release. By the way, I am really satisfied with wp8.1:)
