Displaying dock to monitor cable

My monitor (DELL P2411H) is old, which does not come with HDMI port. It has one DVI and one VGA port.

I have my PC connected to DVI port now, so I think I need to look for a HDMI to VGA adapter. After searching over Internet for a bit of time I noticed many people warned such cables that it may not even work as expected.

I'd like to seek for some opinion, how can I determine the HDMI to VGA will work for me before I buy it.

I would use a site like Amazon and read the reviews for the best chance of success. Lots of people giving great reviews.

Even HDMI - DVI cables are not all the same. Typically buying and trying is the only way you'll really know.

Make sure the adaptor is active adaptor not passive.
