My question is aimed at people who have been able to test a WP8.1 device. Have you been able to install apps from the store which have not been updated for WP 8.1? For eg. Have you been able to install apps with a last update date of say July 2013.

Or in simple terms, is WP 8.1 completely backwards compatible with WP8 apps?

WP8 apps will work on WP8.1, apps that are released for WP8.1 will not work on WP8.

Are you sure that 8.1 apps wont run on 8(did I miss that somewhere) ? In programming, there are features that the 8.1 app has but, 8 does not support them, it will just ignore them but, it could error out...

Even most WP7 apps will run on Windows Phone 8/8.1////

I'm sure WP8.1 apps are not compatible with WP8 I have to found it out.

Love you guys for answering. It appears that WP8.1 will support WP8 apps completely. But I made a mistake in asking the wrong question.

I read about the developer preview for wp8.1 being available from April 8th or 10th. And from the news that is available as of now, it appears that end users will get WP 8.1 in summer 2014 in US/UK and the rest of the world will get the update in 2015. So instead of waiting for a year, I wanted to try out the developer preview version on my phone. However I am worried about one app - Nokia Mixradio. I have been a Nokia music user for the past 2+ years and Nokia music(now mixradio) was one of the reasons I chose a WP device. I recently understood that Nokia releases updates in parallel with Mifrosoft's WP updates. So my question is -

Will I be able to install and use Nokia Mixradio after updating to WP 8.1 developer preview?

Since a similar situation must have arose for users when GDR3 was released, I would like to hear from you guysh
