I know most of us are enthusiasts, rather than regular consumers, but do any of you use the Elite X3 as a consumer phone vs. business phone? I currently use a Lumia 950 (mostly for personal use) but was thinking of picking up an X3 to try out. How is it as an everyday phone? Do you think it will be viable for a couple of years? Appreciate your thoughts.

The fact that it has a decent functional well thought out dock and real speakers sells it to me as a consumer item

I'm finally saying and sorry to in some ways, I had to move my Elite X3 on. It was a bit to hefty and large for me. Great build and quality. Just too big. I also could not get past AT&T not fully supporting it with Enhanced LTE services. Have a lumina 950 and s7 edge for now though...

I've a 950 myself so I'll try to name some pro's and con's I have between the two...

When it comes to battery life, the x3 DESTROYS the 950. With the 950 I would barely finish the day with any juice remaining, while the x3 still has enough (~70%). Thats just insane to me.

Build quality is good. Thing dropped a few times but so far not a single dent or crack. Amazing screen and the photo's you take aren't half as bad as people like to tell you. I have a hard time seeing much difference between the 950 and x3. It's definitly a good, viable phone for the coming years. It will age FAR better then the 950 did with its 808 snapdragon that guzzles battery when used. The x3 also remains really, really cool with heavy use. Pretty darn amazing.

What I don't like is that you cannot disable the camera shutter sound. This is especially annoying when you're taking a picture from something you see and people get into a hissy fit because they think you're snapping a picture of them instead. Had that happen a few times... It also interrupts any music you're playing through your headset. Super annoying! and the size is really something personal. I find it too big. Doesn't fit well inside my pockets. Fell out of my pocket a few times when sitting down so keep that in mind.

Personally, I wish HP would make a smaller version of this phone. This is a seriously good phone and if HP can cramp it into a 5" - 5.5" phone I would but it in a heartbeat. I kinda miss the tap to wake function, but can't say I'm missing the glance screen.

This is what I'm wondering too. That would be cool. Not sure how the x3 is selling and whether they would be willing to make such a device.

It does have double tap to wake, its in the extras part in settings but is a bit finicky and does not perform as well as the Lumia double tap to wake.

Ya. That dbl tap function for the hp is driven differently. Folks have definitely identified that. It does not interact/rely on the screen/digitizer. Maybe Nokia/Microsoft have a license on the system emebeded version and that's why hp came up with there own app version...

I returned my iphone 7 plus for an x3 and love every minute of it. After I figured out all the kinks and set it up and it has been flawless. I rarely use continuum, but when I do it amazes everyone.

I love the size, power, battery life, simplicity, home screen tiles, memory, expandable sd, fingerprint reader AND iris scanner... and best of all, it's so different from EVERYONE ELSE. Camera is sub par.

It is an awesome daily driver. I was able to pick it up for $575 with the dock brand new from a local msft store and don't regret it for one second. This is my second favorite phone of all time. First is the Blackberry Passport Silver Edition.

I say give it a go and you'll see for yourself.

Exactly. So far, the experience has been so horrible that I turned it off all together. No matter what I tried, the phone would never wake up properly. Or it would wake up when I bumped into the table, but never when double tapped.

Would be nice if they could mimic HTC's version where the accelerometer would "see" when you picked up the phone and activated the digitizer on the screen so that you can double tap it. I really loved that implementation, even better than the one MS uses. Sometimes my 950 wakes up in my jeans pocket and thats so frustrating.

I think its more of an exclusive for now, like the equalizer. Makes no sense if you'd ask me with this marketshare and the discontinued Lumia line (AFAIK).

I use it as a mix of personal/work use but since I bought the phone myself (not required by work), I'm a consumer. I'd say if you're a WM fan, and can spring the money for it, it's a great buy.

As with other WP (and other phones in general), it has some kinks. Some first generation bugs I guess. I finally got all those ironed out and I've had a fully functioning phone for almost a month (first bought it 2 weeks prior).

As a consumer device, it's meeting all my needs. Syncs up to my car's Bluetooth to play music from Groove. Cortana is working well reading me my texts while driving. Has all the apps I use and everything on Edge has been working for me (including Google owned websites). Phone runs very smoothly and is fast as W10M can get. I've done side by side comparisons with my 1520 opening the same apps on the same Wi-Fi and the x3 is only a bit faster, noticeable but not omg fast. I attribute that to the OS though as the 1520 never opened even stock apps that quickly. The build quality is also amazing and I think it's a pretty shmexy looking device. Shame I have the silicon case covering it up. The size is perfect (coming from a 1520) and still makes people go wow when they see it.

The camera leaves a lot to be desired. I've used it mainly for work (taking pics at sites) so it's done the job seeing as everything was stationary. Trying to take pics of my dog though, forget about it. Shutter takes too long and can never get a clear pic. I'll leave that to my bro and his S7. Taking videos is pretty good though, even in low lighting. I would have no problem using this as a video camera at a concert or just watching my dog do stupid stuff.

As an everyday phone for the past month, it's been stellar. It's capabilities compared to my 1520 are not immediately noticeable but one thing that has definitely stuck out to me has been the battery life and efficiency. The 1520 was no slouch, but browsing Readit for 20min on the toilet made it warm, Netflix, running a few apps at the same time. All caused significant battery drain and a lot of heat. Even the screen would get hot sometimes. The x3 does not have this problem at all. I go to bed with it at 100% and don't charge it again until an hour before going to bed the next day. Even then it still has at least 40% left (that's about 22-23 hours of use with 7-8 of idle time). I have a 40 min commute twice a day where I'm Bluetooth streaming music. Text often, calls a few times, email more than anything, Reddit browsing, GroupMe, edge browsing and to come home not worrying about battery life is great. Charging once a day for less than an hour is crazy and the phone never gets hot.

You can find my experience with Continuum in other posts and it's been positive so far. Works seamlessly with my work/personal tasks.

I sincerely hope this phone is viable for the next few years. My 1520 lasted 3 and would've kept going probably. I really don't want to get rid of this phone sooner than I need to.

Ya HTC's innovations are a lot more bullet proof even if similar. In how it's done being HTC was consumer driven, more R&D went where it counted, unlike hp being non-consumer driven. Not to mention HTC pioneered certain characteristics we see today like the classic unibody design...it would be awesome if they came with another Windows mobile device...I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Yes, it is a bit buggy, but the superior feature is the sensor on the finger print reader, you just have to tap that or press your finger on it and the whole phone wakes up and is instantly where you left off. If you just Although this feature does seem to make the phone fairly active when in my pocket.
