Empty areas in certain menus

I have had this for a while now and it kind of makes me paranoid. I have this empty selection area in some menus(in apps too)

I don't know if I'm missing a feature, or an app corrupting something, or this being normal. Can anyone enlighten me and rid me of my uncertainties?

That's normal.
Why? Probably a small art or design decision.

or it could be as mundane as a random guy doing it.

its not indicating anything wrong though, no worries.
