External Monitor Help

I just looked through all 14 pages of the posts in this forum and could not find a thread which addressed my question.

I have the mini display to VGA adapter (from MS store) and hooked it up to a 19" Insignia LED TV from BestB. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to use it as a second monitor? for example, having One Note open on the monitor and the browser open on the Surface? Any help would be great.

Slide in from the right to view the charms bar and select devices and then select second screen. With the vga cord attached, you'll have several options including mirror, use only one display, and use both. I have found it works best to have one screen be the desktop and the other as the modern app environment. Hope this helps.

This does help. I also did a face-palm, duh, moment after I posted this, realizing that I can use the track pad on the keyboard to slide the program onto the other monitor. I was too used to swiping the screen...
