EXTREMELY disappointed in available Windows phones on VZW

I just dropped my 8x after 3 years and shattered the screen. I had "upgraded" to an Icon for a couple months this past summer but went back to my 8x out of preference, other than the camera and stability using 8.1 DP I find the 8x a much better phone to use.

Anyway, now that I need a new phone, and am locked in to VZW due to service/coverage where I'm at, I am extremely disappointed after 3 years the selection of Windows phones is what it is. For one, the convenience of wireless charging is something I won't be without. Both latest phones (ativ se / One M8) are devoid of wireless charging. Camera on the M8 is lower MP than my 8x. Reports ate that the Ativ won't run 8.1DP well and there is no way I can go back to 8.0.

I have a free upgrade and absolutely nothing available that interests me. Is this ever going to improve? I still have my Icon but really dislike the bulk of it so will probably use it temporarily until I can buy an 8x off Ebay. Sure do hope this situation is improved some time soon. 830 is appealing but of course won't be on VZW. No wins to be found here at all. :crying:

Yeah, I just switched from Verizon to AT&T the day my two year contact ended. I liked Verizon's service but they have got terrible support for WP and I grew tied of waiting. I feel bad for you 😢

Don't lock yourself into another contract with Verizon whatever you do!

Agreed. You should be able to switch to a plan that will cost less. If you're on a regular contract plan but are month to month, you're basically paying for a phone you don't have. The only caveat is if you have a plan with grandfathered unlimited data and you want to hang on to that.

The options for windows phone on all carriers it's laughable. The reason why there hasn't been a flagship released, nothing really better than the 920 that was released in 2012. Take an iPhone from 2012 (iPhone 5) compare it against the 6 or the 6 plus, take the 920 and compare it against the 830... Of course there is the icon, and 1520... But those are small upgrades to the 920

I couldn't agree more and have posted this in other forums, only to be laughed at by people saying we have plenty of "flaghships" available, or "be patient".

It's getting old. If MS really wants to be a player, it's not rocket science to understand that you need to have product that users want on the largest carrier in the United States! Why is that so difficult to understand???

Don't you ever think that they are preparing for the new devices? It would be nice if they get a Lumia phablet!

Since the 928 slotted in at the mid-range at this point as far as price point goes, it could be that they are getting ready for something new. Wasn't the 735 supposed to go out on Verizon?

Yep, maybe they finally sold all of the 928's? Maybe the Icon will return with 8.1? Maybe Verizon had a hissy fit over Microsoft? The drama continues.

Sometimes I think we forget how much control the carriers have (or think they have) - look at AT&T and Blackberry with the Passport. AT&T didn't like the square shape and made BB round off the edges for their version.
BB is pretty much desperate at this point, so they'd make a hot pink version if that is what AT&T asked for - but imagine if Verizon or AT&T tried to make design demands with Apple or Microsoft - they'd be promptly told where to go.

I'm in a disappointing situation as well. Our company wants to switch carriers from Sprint to Verizon. I saw an opportunity to move from an android to a WP. Now my only options are an M8 or ATIV. These are decent phones, but I expected a better selection. My personal phone has been a 1520 since just after release and I wanted to stay in a similar format. Seeing the reduction in WP availability has me concerned and I am considering putting an argument against our move to Verizon as a carrier.

I agree with the sentiment, but I do believe when it comes to Verizon the biggest issue is that Verizon doesn't WANT Windows Phones, or at least that they prefer ones from their usual vendors, Samsung and HTC. Otherwise they simply wouldn't have discontinued the Icon.

There is also a much bigger issue going on in general that Microsoft seems to believe that they don't need a flagship until Windows 10 comes out. The fact that AT&T doesn't even have any Snapdragon 8xx series phones anymore makes this very clear. They're dead wrong.

But I suspect even if they had one, Verizon still wouldn't play ball.
