Files disappearing when OneDrive backs up

Windows Central Question

We have discovered some folders each time OneDrive backs up that completely disappear from OneDrive and from our PC. We've had this problem since we started using OneDrive on Windows 10. We don't trust it to back up our PC anymore, and now we back up to external flash drives until we can figure what is happening. We have lost some important pictures and documents which were difficult to recreate or locate other copies. HELP
