Hey all, so just yesterday bought Lumia 1020 as hardcore android user. Boy am I glad to make the jump! Amazes me the things u get with this price (399?).

have few questions tho

firstly I'm interested in trying the dev preview program as I used to tweak android on root level too. Mostly after the upcoming wp8.1
The required steps to get it working seems odd. I downloaded the required two apps, but the Microsoft studio app doesn't give me option to register as a developer?

Second thing is that seems this phone is pretty prone to heat up even in light operations. Tho I wonder do I need to manually exit apps or is it possible that they remain in background to use CPU and battery?

And this prolly goes to 1020 forums but I can't seem to find a way to use the lossless zoom from the gallery nor any app?

Thanks, the dev app says i have to be assigned as a developer in order to continue. Well as i continued to the link given, it says i have to unlock the phone first too? I thought it would only require two steps?

No such tweaking here, WYSIWYG. Dev preview only provides you with latest WP (kinda like if you got AOSP onto Galaxy and got TouchWiz a few months later, except the old touchwiz would still work on latest AOSP)

I got it by being a student I don't remember the exact steps, you still have a week to figure it out before 8.1 is released to Devs.

925 heats up as well, during games mostly or not optimized apps. Not much you can do about it except tell the dev to optimize it. If you 'exit' the app by pressing start, they continue to run, if you exit them properly with back button, they exit. Or hold back and tap 'X' to close them later. Observe if that helps.

View them in Nokia Camera app or download HD Photo Viewer | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States) but it still won't load hi-res photos because of API limitations. Check in Nokia Camera settings that you actually save the 41mp photo as well. Otherwise use computer to view it, 768p screen on your phone is too small to tell the difference anyway.

You unlock the phone with Visual Studio or App studio or whatever, it takes 2 clicks.
In VS 2013: Tools -> Windows Phone 8.1 -> developer unlock, follow (simple) instructions. This is the latest VS with WP8.1 update. Without update (so WP8 only) the procedure is very much the same

1. Sign up for App Studio (Free) with your Microsoft Account Windows Phone App Studio - Microsoft
2. Install, run, and enable Developer Preview app on your phone. Preview for Developers
3. Go to Settings->Phone Update->Check for Updates

Btw my wife used to be hardcore IOS fan. Tried my Lumia and now she has Lumia 520 and ever happy as well for making the switch
