First time WP7 user (hopefully) - compatibility question

I've purchased a Samsung Omnia 7 for use in Canada. It's a long story, but the purchase was actually an accident, but I do like the device and have been following the progression of the WP7 OS over the past year.

Now my question is regarding the compatibility of this phone with networks in Canada (specifically MTS and Rogers). I've read conflicting reports on whether or not it will work on the frequencies available in my area. I spoke to a tech specialist on the phone yesterday who confirmed that it would work on MTS. Now today I had a sales person on the phone from MTS that said it might not work.

After getting over the shock of the accidental purchase, I've been anxious to try the phone out. This will be my first smartphone that is not a Blackberry, and I'm excited to move on. However, I'd like to know before it gets here if it will actually work or if it will be a glorified music player/paperweight.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

...How do you accidentally buy a phone?

At any rate, it sounds like you just need to talk to someone with more knowledge than a floor salesman, and see if you can run the phone on the network.

I should have mentioned that I purchased it on Amazon, so that's why it hasn't arrived.

I guess I can wait and see when I get it. I was just hoping someone might have more insight. It seems as though some people have been using the Omnia 7 in North America somewhere, even though it was originally destined for Europe.

Not sure if the carriers you mention are GSM is use SIM cards, but if they are you can expect to at least make and receive calls, texts and EDGE data speeds. If fully compatible you will get 3G data.

Still, how did you accidentally buy a phone on Amazon?
