Force Desktop Site for Wikipedia and eBay on Windows Phone 8.1

Since updating to Windows Phone 8.1, no matter what I do, Wikipedia and eBay (amongst others) always show in Mobile mode (even with "Website preference" set to "desktop version" and hitting the 'classic' or 'desktop' or 'full site' link within any given site).

eBay does initially show the desktop site, but when you actually tap through to a listing, it reverts back to the mobile version.

Anyone know of any workarounds? (apart from using the Wikipedia and eBay apps, obviously).

Good question. I've encountered the same thing on many sites and also find it extremely annoying.

Found a workaround for eBay; you can bookmark or pin the following URL:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/?redirect=mobile

Seems to force the desktop site from thereonin.
