Forums need an "Armchair CEO" section

Crackberry has a subsection of "general discussion" called Armchair CEO where they discuss what they think the CEO should do about this product or that service. I see a lot of people starting posts such as "MS should give (blank) to this country" or "Windows Phone needs integration with (blank)" so I think it would be a cool place to shoot off ideas. Sam even made a joke about this when it was announced that MS may change the licensing fees to WP and at the end he said, "pull up your finest armchair and discuss this".

That forum was in response to blatant trolling in the stocks sub forum.

But I agree a thread for that now is better than later for those with the wild ideas. Some where these people can voice their opinion and not be completely belittled for their thoughts

Sounds like a good place for people to post ridiculous ideas and not bother anybody. Excellent way to avoid abuse.

It's a subforum, not a section, and yes, it's a good idea. We should really relay this to Dave.

We(?) should've added this back when Nokia announced going WP-only, lol.

Relay it to James, that man can get it done. Actually I'll email him right now lol

Here is the jist. I said NO and James says I need to explain why.

I flat refuse to add a forum just for people to *****. Why? I am glad you asked.

  • Be polite. We ask that you keep your language clean and polite.
  • Be understanding and patient. You may be a power user or developer, but the person you’re talking to on the other end may be a complete newbie. Be patient, and provide all details possible if you’re posting about a problem (descriptive thread title always helps).
  • Be a pro. Don’t get into arguments over dumb things. If someone responds in a poor or rude fashion, ignore it. If you notice a pattern of rude or poor behavior from a particular member, report them to our moderators. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. In a nutshell, ‘think before you post’.
  • Be attentive and helpful. Answer questions in a timely manner when you can, and provide thoughts and suggestions that might lead to the solution of a members’ problem.
[/INFO]

We are better than this. If you don't like what Microsoft is doing we have a forum where you can start an intelligent conversation so we all can have a civil discussion of the facts and share ideas. If you just want to start a nonsense thread do it in the off topic forum I don't have an issues with that.

We do have this rule as well:

[WARN]Make Relevant & Meaningful Posts - Do your best at all times to make relevant, meaningful and helpful posts in our communities.
[/WARN]

Why would we want to make a forum location for threads that are meaningless and irrelevant?

hmmm using the rules against the system, I love it!
I certainly have never looked at the Armchair CEO subforums like that before.

I didn't much care for it when introduced at CB, thought it'd be more work for us Mods, but it wasn't so bad in the end

To take it a step further I will say this. I have never been a fan of dump forums.

Definition of Dump Forum: A location in a forum to move or start unwanted threads that are controversial. Rant threads.

If I recall correctly the original Armchair CEO forums was created on CB to have a place to move rant threads for them to hopefully die. The reason I don't like these dump forums is because of the bleed out. The bad attitudes and hurt feeling that occur in these types of forum will travel to other parts of the forum. People get into arguments have disagreements in the Armchair CEO forum then they continue the hurt feelings and or arguments in other threads. We have one forum on WPC where we allow a little of this its our Phone Wars forum. All us moderators know to expect and allow a certain level of uncivil behavior. Even at the low levels allowed in that forum we have experienced some bleed out. Here at WPC we want civility to rule in all forums locations. IE No Dump Forums

I agree. There was a Storm Rants & Raves Forum on CrackBerry, and it was an absolute mess. Storm Rants & Raves Forum - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

I love Armchair forums! It's perfect for hindsight perfectionists like me LOL!

Having said that, the staff here know what's best for this specific forum, and I'll support it... until there's an Armchair Moderator forum for me to pop off in :rotfl:

You all are nuts...lol

Keep those great suggestions coming. Just because I don't agree with this one doesn't mean I wont agree with the next one. Now you know my thinking here so we have grown just a little closer as a community.
