If you haven't noticed we are all being granted moderator authority over the comments on the Blog. Please do not do any moderator work on the blog until we have a clear cut set of rules. If we remove something the EIC wanted to comment on we better have a good reason for removing it. For now just wait till we have a clear cut definition of what they want.

I might as well come clean and admit that I did delete a cussing/insulting arguement between ammarmalik and 3 others yesterday in front page comments. My bad and I won't do anything else until further notice.

Don't do anything on the blog page. The writers love the cursing arguments and will usually comment once they see the issue. Please let the writers police their own comments page until we have clear cut set of rules. This includes clear cut spam. We just don't know yet how we want to handel spam in the PP.

Daniel has a way of responding to comments that really makes me laugh.

Is there a way to get notified of blog comment spam? Do members report it?

I never read comments on blog posts (not on WPC or any site). I only read the author's article, and I tweet the author directly to talk to him. So I won't be actively monitoring the blog comments, but I'll definitely handle spam removal if someone notifies.

As I posted on the Mobile Nations forum: Are mods supposed to check the comments on blogs too?

I've always been active on the forums, but the comments on blogs never were my cup of tea. I'll usually just read the author's article, but I personally don't care what comments are made and rarely read comments. That's not just Mobile Nations, it's all sites. I rarely even comment myself. If I want to contact the author, I'll tweet him/her; for instance, I've never posted a comment on Ars Technica, but I've personally had conversations with Peter Bright on Twitter.

Don't worry about it if you have time pitch in if you don't don't. I rarely read the comments myself. The forums are our area to cover the blog is just for if or when you are done with your forum work. No there is no way for someone to report span on the blog at least not that I know of.

Yeah. He comes across as a jackass, but highly amusing at the same time. He does seem like a decent person though. (and Dan, I mean no offence to you whatsoever here)

Most of the comments he responds in that way to the commenter said something really stupid. Highly entertaining.

What they need for the front page is a word filter. Why they don't edit post like these is beyond me. Sad, but true, it degrades the site.

Who sits down for Christmas dinner, looks over at their Grandmother and says, "Pass the f-cking butter". You don't, and it all has to do with respect.

It all depends upon how edgy or how conservative the site owners want to be. Also, if the site wants to be as conservative as CNN.com or foxnews.com re: comment policy, it would be necessary to have moderators for the blog comments too. Both CNN.com and foxnews.com moderate their comments.

You'll piss ME off? What? Or are we on about Mr Rubino??

James says in the guide to email him when we see something like that so do it. After a couple of hundred emails a week I bet there will be a rule change. :amaze:

Very sly Mr. Blake, very sly.

I understand what you're saying, but honest to gawd, should I really have to email him about it? It has to do with professionalism.

I just PM'ed James and asked him to take a look at the issue here in the staff forum.

A spam/language filter has been implemented... and as we mark items as 'spam' the filter is 'trained'... Instances of the above should become less and less as our filter gets 'smarter' :)
