Help diagnose this 1520 screen issue, please!!

Hi all-

The other day my L1520 screen freaked out with all sorts of strange colors, distortions, and image ghosting (text or images from other parts of the screen "echoing" all around the screen).





Screen shots, pics and videos turn out fine. The problem is only with what I see on the screen.

I've rebooted, I've hard reset, I've used the "Lumia Software Recovery Tool" (5.0.8) all to no avail.

I've read around on other threads where people have had other kinds of screen problems and seen advice to "reflash the ROM". I'm not really sure what that means and when I tried reading some instructions like these [Tutorial] How to flash an Lumia device | Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking | XDA Forums , I find myself beyond my comfort/knowledge level of the amount of tinkering I can do.

Insights? Solutions?

Forgot to mention: I bought it used and it isn't under warranty.

Looks like a hardware issue and since you've applied the known software solutions I'd say a replacement screen is the solution to this problem. Palco Repair Center

Your LCD is cracked.



Replacement options:
Genuine Nokia Screen: Palco $219, Me $150((for the part)+shipping - see 'Pay it forward' thread in marketplace)
Referb/knockoff/OEM: Me 'Your part+shipping' - see 'Pay it forward' thread in marketplace) or you could do it yourself.

I think ScrubbyXD nailed it. I don't believe any software flash would help that. You really need to repair the hardware.

Thanks, guys, for your replies. I appreciate it! Even if I don't like it. There does appear to be a very sharp crack-like line along the color change in the lower right corner, but underneath the smooth glass.

Scrubby, thanks for the link and the offer. I'll have to give it some thought. The repairs with shopping aren't much less than I paid in the first place. Not sure it's worth buying twice. Whether I fix and keep, fix and sell, or sell for parts, I'm out a chunk of money.

Thankfully, I hadn't yet sold my 830 since I bought the 1520, so I've got something to hold me over if I'd rather wait for whatever the new flagship(s) ends up being.
