So my surface just started shutting down every time I close the type cover or press the power button. How can I get it to just go to sleep mode? Please help!

Check in the desktop power options, see what it has for the lid and power button set

Just blank spaces. I never messed with those settings.

The settings should not be blank. They should say sleep - other options are shutdown and do nothing. If they are literally blank the power profile is likely corrupt. You can try hitting restore defaults and see if they reset. Even if they do though I would be concerned about some underlying issue that triggered the problem. You might also check Event Viewer and see what is listed under critical and errors...

Thanks for all the help. I have found what the issue was after some more research. The surface can't go into sleep mode if Hyper-V is enabled. I disabled it and everything is fine now.
