I agree, which to me is why posts like this aren't helpful. Post your problem, ask people if they have had the same ones, and move on. Don't post unneeded content about how Microsoft is going to go out of business if they don't fix it. Certainly doesn't help your own problem, nor anyone else's.

Sorry Mod if I took it off the rails, just hate it when people start a fire that doesn't, YET, deserved to be started. Speak to me in 4 weeks if none of these problems have been addressed, then, and only then, might I agree with this poster.

New device. New OS. There's going to be teething pains. I understand some people's frustration, a new device should function correctly considering the amount of money being charged. But that's why warranties exist. No company's immune to defective product releases.

As a point of WC etiquette, keep things civil and let's let those who are upset vent in a meaningful way. The issues they're having may be something that one of us has seen and may have a simple solution for. That's why we're here, to HELP.

So I should spend 1500+ on a laptop/Surface and not have the right to express my opinion on how lack luster it is? So you really think companies will do anything if they aren't aware of a problem?

If no one complains and returns the book, the problems won't get fixed. If I spend nearly two thousand dollars on a 2 in 1 device and I can't even detach the screen or the screen flickers while browsing the web, obviously that is a big issue and yes people should complain, are you fricking kidding me?

Seriously, in all seriousness, go read what you've been poating. You sound like you work at Microsoft in the quality control department and you're trying to save your job.

This is 2015. People don't spend two thousand dollars to have a laptop that flickers while browsing the damn internet..... Get real. A $200 Chromebook browses the web better than this Surface Book does right now.

I obviously love the device, that's why I bought it. But come on man... These issues are terrible. The quality control at Microsoft, is abysmal.

I'm sorry you're having such a bad experience with the device, and maybe you should return it. However, I think it's worth noting that what we're talking about here is anecdotes, and as ever the plural of anecdote isn't data.

It will take time to see what the true return rate due to fault is to get an idea how wide spread these issues are. Whenever you scale up production on any unit, especially one as bleeding edge as this one is in terms of engineering, there will be some faults. The question is whether it will ultimately fall out of a range that's expected for mass production.

I think it's a big leap to say their quality control is abysmal based on some angry posts on the internet, especially when there's little incentive for people who aren't having issues to post.

Somehow I have yet to experience any of these issues on my device and I'm pushing it pretty hard with Creative Cloud, Virtual Studio and Vagrant/Homestead. Hopefully this is just software stuff and it gets ironed out for those of you experiencing conflicts shortly.

So, how does ranting about your problems, and unequivocally telling Microsoft their QC sucks help your situation? How? You wouldn't know the first thing about QC, if it hit you in the face, with you looking. I spent the same amount of money on this device as you, and like you I have a few of the problems you describe. I have posted on these forums, and the Microsoft Community about these problems (did you post on the MS Community? Probably not), seen that other users are having my problems, and let the responses speak for themselves. Nowhere along the way would I post that Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves about this product. I simply let them, and the world at large, see that there are problems. THEN, give them the time and space to correct them.

Do you really think that any rant you could provide would get a multi-billion dollar company to move any faster? Or, that your experience has any bearing on what they release and what they don't? If you do, I really want to live in your world. The numbers of posters need to speak for themselves, not any WORDS you, or anyone else posts.

I am in no way saying "don't complain", in fact if you would actually read my posts, you would see that I am saying, yes please complain, and complain a lot. BUT, do not flame the subject or espouse claims of bad QC or bad this on the part of the maker. It does not help the cause, and is frankly a waste of breath. If you complain and do not hear from Microsoft, or your problem isn't fixed in a timely manner, than by all means, return the device and be on your marry way, end of story.

And again, you still haven't said if your beloved Macbook is ALWAYS perfect. I know for a fact it isn't, and could share many personal stories, and many Internet links showing you that they have just as many problems as this new product. Am I saying they are worse or better at Microsoft at making devices? No, just that ALL new products, regardless of cost, have problems. It is unavoidable, and if you want to avoid it, DO NOT BUY A BRAND NEW PRODUCT!!!!! Period.

You're completely missing my point. And you're basically taking out some sort of frustration on someone who's voicing their own opinion. If you want to tell someone how to react or how they feel about something, that isn't helping this thread or my main subject. The subject being, Microsoft is not doing the company ANY favors releasing a bug ridden product, letting consumers be the beta testers. That is my point. If you want to rant about stuff that is unrelated, do it somewhere else. Your not helping my thread at all by attacking my personal point of view. This isn't a Apple vs Microsoft debate, but Microsoft made it that why by comparing it to a Macbook. Well, in comparison to a Macbook, the Surface Book in its current state absolutely sucks in comarpsion. Facts are facts, and forum aristocrats will be forum aristocrats.

This is your Title: [h=1]Hey Microsoft!!! Fix your Surface Book before it dies![/h]
Not mine. Your posts on here have been riddled with anecdotal flaming and trolling, NOT opinions. If your posts were really just opinions and preferably facts about your issue, there would be no issue. And I have no issue, just trying to get people to see the real picture, not some rose colored version that is unrealistic. Period

The only fact here is that you, and some people, are having a bad experience with the device and that sucks. I wish that was not the case and I hope it gets resolved soon. Extrapolating that out and assuming that's emblematic of huge, widespread problems is a leap too far though.

That said I don't blame you for being frustrated, I'm sure I would be too. I've had my share of dud devices on release over the years and it sucks. All you can do is try to work through the problems, give the company a chance to make it right and go from there. If the solutions put on the table don't meet your expectations the healthiest thing to do is return the unit, purchase something else and move on. It's not worth the aggravation. It's just a computer after all.

Uggh....I am experiencing similar problems on my SP4. I am considering returning it. For myself (and I suspect many of us) this was the MOST expensive computer I have ever purchased. I expected better.

Edit: I see other's going after the OP. Read around the web, MANY people are raising these same complaints. This is a widespread problem. This afternoon I found my SP4 blazing hot in its sleeve (while 'asleep') and nearly dead. This evening I found it cool and felt relieved until I realized it was actually DEAD-cold. It had finished itself off while asleep. In addition to all the display issues I am having I am ready to return it.

I'm not "going after" the OP or anyone. I just think people's perceptions of how large problems are get distorted by the internet.

It's very simple. Bring the device to your closest Microsoft Store, have them document every issue that's wrong with it so they can forward it to the appropriate people.

From there, you can return it to the place you purchased the device from and wait for the fixes, or you can wait for the issues to get fixed and then update your system. Complaining about it on a forum that I seriously doubt is on the top of Microsoft's list of "to read" websites, is going to do pretty much nothing.

With that said, anyone has the right to form an opinion and express it. Expressing your opinion in certain ways is not productive.

This post was NOT aimed at any particular person, just in general. Enjoy your Surface Books, I will enjoy mine when I get it very soon.

It sucks to spend 2k to have a device riddled with issues have to agree with the OP on that.

My surface book has had issues as mentioned. The dGPU doesn't seem to work or work well at all , I run into issues when I try to play a wow on fair settings that this should be able to run not looking to play a killer game but some non demanding ones isn't much to ask for a dGPU device. I've had the blue screen 3 times already just browsing the web and disconnecting the screen. I've also had the keyboard and mouse stop working multiple times , usually removing the screen and reattach fixes it but I have had to reboot to fix it .

I will give it a week or what my return policy from bb is for some fixes but won't gamble with my money and keep it past my return period. I really like the device so it will be sad to not keep it

I don't want to start some bickering childish thing here on these wonderful forums, I simply am venting after a bunch of anticipation of an awesome product. So many folks are having so many issues with both their Book's and Pro 4's, it makes me cringe that these issues are so rampant. It isn't just me, or just a handful of people, a lot of these issues are widespread... its unacceptable. I hope the majority of these issues get resolved with simple updates/patches, and I hope it happens soon. The more this lingers, the more that people will be returning their Book's and Pro 4's. I guarantee you that many buyers have returned their faulty units and went with something else out of pure frustration. If the impression is this bad off the bat, not many people will bother with a replacement. People like US, the forum users, the "techies" who read up on devices and use them on a daily basis, we are the ones who are typically OK with waiting for fixes. We are the patient ones, the general user is NOT and they will return and never come back. THAT is the point I'm trying to make. And yes, I am frustrated and so are a bunch of other people in the same exact predicament.

Yeah i agree for a general user this would be a really bad start and would result in an instant return I would think.

Many (if not most) of these problems seem to stem from the new Skylake processors from Intel -- either the driver, or outright flaws in a few of the i7's.

If someone would tell me how that would not have afflicted any manufacturer using cutting-edge Intel chips (I'm pretty sure Apple does that, too), I might be more inclined to blame Microsoft for the problems.

This is an absolutely bleeding-edge product. There will be hiccups. It's not like buying a PC from Dell using a processor that's been available for a year (and I'll note that my very first PC, a Dell Pentium, had intermittent freezing that came down to a bad cache card).

I agree with the frustration mentioned above. I've had bsod's, edge freezes, terrible battery and color shifting. I signed up for the windows insider builds and today was able to download 10576 which is the newest build and so far my laptop is like a totally new computer. The trackpad now works just like my MacBook air, the edge browser is working well and quickly. Battery life now shows over 11 hours connected to the keyboard and there is no weird color shifting on the screen. I thought I might be taking a risk downloading the insider build, but wow I'm glad I did. Hope it holds up...
