Home button on Samsung ATIV SE not responding

I have a Samsung ATIV SE. The home button no longer brings the screen to life? Actually none of the buttons (power, volume up down or the home button) causes the screen to life. If I insert the batter charger cord (plugged in only) then the screen lights up. How do I fix this? Note I already removed the battery for a time and that did not work. Help!
