Since installing the update to build 15063.297, I've had several issues with my Lumia 950 freezing up or behaving strangely. I had several different issues that occurred just yesterday.

Yesterday morning when I took the phone off the charger, I briefly saw the glance screen and then the display went blank. The phone wouldn't respond again until I held the power button to force a reboot.

Later in the morning, I had an app opened and couldn't get it to close. I could swipe up from the bottom to show/hide the navigation keys, but the keys themselves wouldn't respond to my touch. I could use the touch screen to navigate within the app, but even the power, camera, and volume buttons wouldn't respond to being pressed.

I also had an issue later in the day where I was reading an article in Edge and I could no longer scroll down the page. I held the back button so that I could close Edge and maybe some other apps. After activating the app switcher, the phone stopped responding. I couldn't swipe away Edge or swipe sideways to access any other apps.

I plugged the phone in to charge when I arrived home in the evening, but when I later pulled it off the charger, it froze up again. For every one of these issues, I had to force a reboot to resume using the phone.

When I have time to set up the entire phone again, I plan on doing a master reset. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with their Lumia 950 on the latest Windows build.

Why go on with stuff like this after an update.
Do a soft reset.
A soft reset does not lose data. it is like pulling the battery.
Hold the volume down button and the power button down until the phone vibrates, release. This takes about 10 seconds. The phone will shutdown and restart. Ignore the slide down to power off.

If that doesn't do it reset the phone. If you have settings backup on, back it up.
What takes the longest is downloading apps again. It takes no time to setup the phone.

Considering the 5 soft resets I performed yesterday alone, that is obviously not the solution for my problems.

I don't understand the statement that "it takes no time to setup the phone." The factory reset process alone isn't a quick process, and then restoring from backup and waiting for all the apps to re-download is time consuming, as you've just mentioned. I consider all that to be part of the process of setting up the phone. I just went through all this on a spare Lumia 640 that I reset and restored for my brother who has a damaged LCD and has also been experiencing battery drain issues since the last cumulative update.

I was just curious if anyone else has been experiencing these issues since the latest update. I didn't have issues when the Creators Update was released as build 15063.251. The problems seemed to appear with the cumulative update 15063.297, and resets are usually not necessary after these small updates in my experience.

Yes. I am experiencing it on my Idol4s, to the point that I started using my 640 on 8.1 again today. Too many freezing issues with this build for me.

Sent from mTalk on my SP4

My wife hasn't complained about her 950 yet...

try an actual battery pull. I've experienced that a battery pull actually fixed some notification issue I had when and soft reset didn't. It's weird.

My 950xl, I have experienced some hangs... but not freezing to the point it doesn't recover. I did a full reset a couple days ago because I haven't since TH2.. I didn't do a restore either. no hangs yet....

I did a reset two nights ago and restored from backup. So far the phone hasn't frozen up again like it had been doing. Hopefully, that took care of whatever issue I was experiencing.

Yes, I've gotten the same thing and it's absolutely maddening. I've never had the WP problems I've read others having with freezes, random reboots, etc, but now I suddenly am. I had an SD card that I suspected was corrupted, so I removed that. I've done soft resets. I did a hard reset. I deleted apps I wasn't using much. But the crazy behavior continues: battery won't charge (or the display level is faulty), sudden battery level drops, random shutdowns, etc.

I'm not on here much so I don't know the answer to this question, but are users of other phones experiencing the same thing, or is this specific to the 950? The last few days I've come this close to getting a 930, Icon, or 1520 off the Bay, but I don't know if that would even help anything. I do know I've had more problems with my 950 than with all my other Windows Phones put together.

It sucks. I don't understand how MS can allow this to happen. It's like they're trying to drive away loyal multiyear customers like myself.

I had it happen one more time this weekend after the factory reset. The phone froze up and wouldn't respond to the hardware buttons (power, camera, volume). Instead of forcing a reboot, I just set the phone down and waited. It took about 3 minutes before the screen turned off even though it's set to lock after 1 minute. At that point, the phone began behaving normally again.

Since the reset last week, all apps are installed on internal memory. The only thing on the memory card are photos and music, which I wasn't accessing when the phone stopped responding.

My wife and I both have 950's. Both on 15063.297. Similar settings and both of us have SD cards too.

- My phone's running great. Fast, responsive and excellent battery life.
- My wife's phone has all the issues described by poit57.

Soft resets have not resolved the issue. Looks like I'll have to give a full reset and restore from backup. Wish I didn't have to go there - Will watch this thread, maybe (hopefully) some new info will come to light before I get to the reset.

mine did the same too, 15063 and 15215 ,always happen while using ms edge, it freezes for a while or so until it respond

My 950xl has been terrible with CU, the worst it's ever been.. 3 hard resets and once with the WDRT.. It'll run reasonably for a while but starts to get kind if corrupted after a couple of days.. It wasn't perfect before, but pretty good, and, apps asside, no complaints.. I really thought the phone hardware had broken because I also have an unsupported L730 on insider, on the same build that's not great but much better than the 950xl. From other peoples reports it seems to be a combination of the phone and the software.. Shame, especially as it's only a few months old.. It's become so unreliable and flaky that if we don't get a stable update soon this old Windows die hard will have to be off too... I can't believe Microsoft could be this cheap and insulting... However, they are clearly so arrogant that they think they don't need customers to be satisfied, even if that came by way of apologising but clearly giving instruction and warning that they want to shut mobile down... By putting all their eggs in the cloud they play a very dangerous long term game, even for a giant of a company, especially as they have upset such a wide spectrum of customers, not just mobile......

I have the same problems -- unlocked 950 Dual SIM phone purchased direct from Microsoft, read it was a bad battery on other forums, bought replacement battery did not resolve the issues, phone still randomly locks up, sometimes gets in reboot loop, if I can get it to restart wifi doesnt work half the time. I've been able to get it to restart occasionally though -- completely unpredictable. Have done a hard reboot and restarted the phone and it's the same. Has the same Build version loaded since its the current build 15063.297

And I am NOT on the Windows Insider Program and the phone is not water damaged or had any hard drops, etc.

I liked the phone for the past year I've had it but this new software issue has made the phone unusable. Sad to say I am likely headed to iOS or Android.

I confirm that the updates screws up the phone badly. I have contacted MS support, already done soft reset and full factory reset to no avail.
We need to wait for another update hoping that it'll fix this mess.
The phone screen goes black and the phone doesn't wake up anymore until soft reset at least 5 times every day. The pull down menu on top of the screen disappears and doesn't come back until soft reset (sometimes three in a row to get it working again). Last but not least, phoen looses network GSM cell connectivity very frequently and, guess what?, only a soft reset will fix it.
Don't waste your time trying a hard reset, because it doesn't fix it.

Hey polt57,

If doing a soft reset and even a hard reset (from settings or via button combination) doesn't help then try doing a factory reset via WDRT.

You would most likely get the original 10586.xyz builds. Then just upgrade step by step to 14393.10xy and then to 15063.297 or 15063.322 (depends). This is the NON-INSIDER build. Safe.

NOTE - Your phone will be completely wiped. Don't forget to backup both your SD card and Internal memory. The SD card is just in case. It's not wiped usually, but better safe than sorry.

1) First, make sure you have an updated OS (Windows 7, 8.1, 10 will do with the latest updates)

2) Go to this site (OFFICIAL Microsoft software) - Windows Device Recovery Tool

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...overy-tool-faq

3) Download this tool and then open it (run directly, there won't be any issues)

4) The download of the .exe file is itself small, but this software then searches for MSFT servers for all the important drivers that you will need to flash your phone, and then downloads them. Let it run till it's over.

5) There will be an installation prompt after the download is over. Once installed, open the software (it'll again check for updates)

6) Charge your phone to 80% and above (Just do this while step 1-5 is going on!! )

7) Connect your phone to PC/Laptop via USB cable (make sure it's the direct connection to motherboard and not some extension (just to be safe - you don't want LOOSE connections while flashing.

8) The software then detects your OS, firmware and you'll get an option to RESET the OS. Click on that.

9) The OS and LATEST Firmware is downloaded to PC and then the phone will automatically start with the flash mode. It'll complete very quick.

10) The rest is like booting any brand NEW phone. Your usual setup.

I've done this many times because I just like a fresh new start every once in a while (I've had issues even after a phone reset via settings, so this is the BEST OPTION - YOU ALSO SAVE MONEY by not going to a store!!!! ) I've done it with a L535, 640, 650, 950XL.

Cheers!! Hope this helps!! :) This will definitely get you to a stable build.
