DOS has not been the core of Windows since the summer of 1993, when Windows NT was released.
Except for Windows 95, 98 and ME, of course.

I also have the 8X, which I love, but I resonate to this topicMy particular gripe is that the search button brings up Bing no matter what app I'm in. It makes more sense when I'm on the start screen, then it's just another shortcut. But it makes less sense that in the middle of using an app I would want to jump to Bing without going back to start. Inevitably when I want someone to take a picture of me and I hand them my phone with the camera app running, they immediately hand it back with Bing up. Why would I want to bring up Bing in the middle of using the camera?
So what I think they should do (as if that mattersis allow apps to take over the search button if they want to, and disable it in any app that doesn't.
I don't understand Lady Gaga...I don't to see the relvince in this thread. I think you are not understanding what we are discussing here.
The question was and still is : How can I disable the search button in Windows Phone 8.
I simply do not understand all the blablabla that some people in here want to spend on it.
Do you have an answer : then please write it down.
If you don't have the answer : then don't bother and move on.
Your blatant rudeness aside, the question is answered several times on the FIRST page. The question was and still is : How can I disable the search button in Windows Phone 8.

The search button in Windows Phone 8 cannot be disabled. The only way that you can stop it is for the user to stop pressing it.
The answer cannot be more clear that that.
