How can I make the screen go dark while charging?

My Lumia 1020 windows phone 8 screen won't go dark while it is charging. When I plug it in, it goes to the lock screen, then it dims, and then goes to just showing the clock and the charging symbol, but it never goes fully dark. I charge the phone at night, and I use it for an alarm, so I charge it in the bedroom. I'd like it to go dark after a few minutes, so that it isn't lighting up my bedroom all night. Please help.

Go to Settings > glance screen > Always on when charging - off.

Alternatively, if you only want it dark during the night, you may choose Hide Glance Screen in the color menu for Night Mode.
