How do I send texts from UK to other countries with Microsoft Lumia 535?

[Windows Central Question]

Trying to send a text message from UK to The Netherlands, comes up with 'can't send message'. The International Assist is switched on.

Does anyone have advice?

Did you check with your carrier that you can send texts overseas?

How about using Whatsapp? Skype? Other options...
