How to stop "New Update" message for 8.1

Hi everyone,

I originally had WP8.1 via developer preview on my Luma 920. I was displeased with it and the lack of ability to simul-post to Facebook and Twitter, changes to the Music player/app, battery life issues, and more. I switched back to WP8 using the software recovery tool. Now that 8.1 has been approved for Lumia 920 on AT&T, I keep getting the popup notice "A new update is available" or whatever for 8.1. To be honest I really like WP8 and don't want to update. It gives me a choice of "Dismiss" or "download". If I select download, will it only download the update, or will it automatically install it as well?

Here's to hoping this thread doesn't turn into a "Why don't you just install 8.1??" war.

Thanks!

It will download and prep, than wait for your go ahead to install, although - I don't know for sure, but it could auto-install sometime.

there is an app called multishare which links to the people hub. It lets you post simultaneously. Unishare does too. Update to 8.1. You are missing out on the action centre, transparent tile backgrounds, shape writing(Swype) etc. there is non reason not to update.

I can live without Swype (I only used it sparingly when I had Dev Preview), I'd rather use the Me hub and FB/Twitter integration than have to go to each respective app EVERY time I want to check a notification. Transparent backgrounds are not really a benefit for me.

it only downloads the update, then gives you the option to install it

and i can completely relate with your situation. it's unacceptable how they worsened several thing with WP 8.1, like games hub for example.

Are you really refusing to update to 8.1 because of the native loss of simultaneously multi-post to social media - that's it? Wow, you're missing out on so much. Live folders, Cortana, Storage Sense, Battery Sense, IE 11 (with reading view, HTML5, inline video), text (SMS) message search, deep call history - the list is literally endless. For what it's worth, I have Multishare installed, integrates with your Me tile i.e. when you select 'post an update', you can set Multishare as the target and it provides a simple, fast, clean UI, consistent with WP8.0 functionality and has some extra features too. Works with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. Upgrade and relax!

Just upgrade. If you have a problem with the updates to the "apps" that are built into the system, find a third party app that does what you want.

You still lose the Me Hub and FB/Twitter integration. Usually its a LOT faster and easier to just check that instead of opening the app, watching the splash screen, then going thru the laggy slow FB app. But thanks to those who answered the question!

the Facebook app is amazing now. Also it links to the people hub so if you tap a picture on the people hub, the picture is opened on Facebook. Pressing back sends you back to the people hub. What's wrong with that?

Also the music player is fixed with the latest update. Amazing now. Battery life is good now. The other storage issue is gone too. However, I understand that you wanna stick with 8. It 's more 'comfortable'. 8.1 made the OS more like android. It feels very weird at first. The only problem is that you won't have 'cyan' which is needed for fitness apps like Fitbit which require Bluetooth LE. Also certain apps are now created only for 8.1 like the files app(official file manager from Microsoft), cortana etc. also there should be a check box on the phone update settings which disables the update.
