I occasionally have issues with my live tiles working properly/ updating periodically on my Lumia 920. For instance, sometimes all of them stop updating for no obvious reason. I've been trying to track the root cause of this issue but have had little success so far. However, I did notice a pattern on a couple of occasions. I currently have 16 full rows of tiles (height of small tile being 1 row and that of medium and wide tiles being 2 rows) and have 6 apps that I've allowed to run as background tasks: Advanced English Dictionary, Amazing Weather HD, BBC News Mobile, Nextgen Reader, Podcatcher, and WPCentral. I noticed that if I try to pin four new small tiles and create a 17th row, that disrupts the live tile performance (doesn't matter if any of these new tiles are background enabled apps or not). Suddenly, all the aforementioned live tiles stop working. And they resume working only after I delete that 17th row of tiles, clear IE10 cache, and perform a soft-reset. I'm not too sure if the number of background tasks is very relevant here, because I had the exact same issue when I had only 4 apps enabled as background tasks (Amazing Weather HD, BBC News Mobile, Nextgen Reader, and WPCentral). Even then, adding a 17th row of tiles would result in live tiles not working anymore.
I wanted to get feedback from the WP8 community to see if there, in fact, is any correlation between the number of rows of tiles and performance of 3rd-party app live tiles. So if you folks could reply back with a. what phone you're using, b. how many rows of tiles you have, c. the number of apps you've enabled to run as background tasks, and d. if all your 3rd-party app live tiles update periodically, that would be great.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Also, if somebody (who is having less than or equal to16 rows of tiles and no issues with live tiles) would be willing to experiment with adding 17 or 18 rows of tiles and check (for a few hours at least) if that affects the live tile performance in any way, I would appreciate it.
