HTC 8XT Rebooting/Crashing

The phone works fine when WiFi is turned off. However, it is not very useful to me without it.

To be honest, I haven't tried a 'lesser' security setting like WEP to see if that also caused the power button lock up issue. I'm assuming you don't want to open your home network up for the time being.

(I've had to open mine up for a couple hours so I could down load Asphalt 7 & 8...then secured it again.)

Would an Airwave be an option?

I have a courtesy AirRave from Sprint but honestly, it's not that good or reliable. Phones drop from the AirRave to the tower and back again whenever it feels like it, timing out any in progress connections, etc. Sprint keeps telling me I'm in a "good" service area. They confirmed via logs I've had no proper connection to the tower in visible history. Before they sent the AirRave I couldn't even make a phone call in my home. Now I can occasionally make phone calls when the phones decide to connect to the AirRave. And on a level of principle, why the hell am I paying Sprint for anything when I'm using my home ISP to do all the heavy lifting? Might as well just get VOIP. Thank god the AirRave is a courtesy, as I would never pay for one because to me it defeats the purpose of paying for cellular service in the first place.

I've put up with it for the past 3 years honestly because I don't make many phone calls and Wi-Fi was always available to me in my home. But the cell reception in the past 6 months has gone from "barely tolerable" to unusable. Couple that with the fact that WP8.1 Dev Preview borked my Wi-Fi and I can't even roll back, I'm not a big Sprint or Microsoft fan at this point. Between the two of them, my smartphone is essentially a paperweight.

Didn't they also promise an update to a few apps, ie, Music by now?

Sprint and I had a very rough winter...lol. Their network vision upgrades were rolling through and I finally have real 3G, with good voice clarity now, and 4G towers are coming online all over town finally. (Des Moines)

If it hadn't, I'd be on another carrier by now. I stick with them b/c with 4 of us (2 teenagers) I like the unlimited everything & the company discount I get.

Hope it gets better for you.

idk if this is going to help anyone, but...I turned Wi-FI back on and flipped over to my 'Open' guest network, (where you have to put in a password in the browser for access)...that is working fine

So, I have Wi-Fi at home again on my guest network...so...hopefully that helps!

Since this seems to be our HTC 8XT specific issue thread...

I just did the update to the DP...and my Wi-Fi lockup issue is fixed. I've been testing for about an hour now, and not one issue hitting the power button and having it not turn on.

Just like Dorelse has said, I just have completed the update and have been testing my 8xt with wireless on. Looks like they heard us and have fixed this issue;) I'll keep on keeping on during the day and if I run into any problems I'll make sure to post them up :)

And of course. as soon as I post my comment, my phone just up and reboots. Looks like from what I have been doing, its still a problem with "Secure" connections. Open connections are not giving me the issues like a secured one does.

Yea I updated and still same problem. It will most likely be fixed in the final release which from the rumors should only be another month. I personally find it far worth it to have the update 2 months early and just be without wifi.

Dammit. Yes, mine too. Reboots, oddly I had to scan my SD card again to 'fix errors'. My phone doesn't hang up on the power button anymore, but it will randomly reboot when on a secure Wi-Fi connection...text message received...reboot, unhook the charger...reboot.

I've gone back to my old method of connecting to my guest wi-fi network, and forgetting the work secure one for now.

Is it just me or does it seem, honestly, snappier? (not intended as a joke...)

Mine started off so promising with no power button delay and no reboot for awhile, but it's now back to acting just as it did when 8.1 was first released.

Same problems post-update. No reprieve here. Somewhat disappointed it took them 1 month to release an update and it didn't address this critical bug. Once again for those of you on the prowl: I can and do live with just about any and all bugs or flaws but not having Wi-Fi is a huge burden for me and an equally large oversight by MS.

Edit: Also, somehow my cell reception is worse.

Have any of you noticed the VVM behavior is different after the 8.1DP Patch? I honestly totally quit using it after 8.1DP...but just tried it again, and I'm seeing improvements with the Patch.

Damn was really hoping this would fix it. Someone should report this bug on twitter its quite bad. Hopefully when the official 8.1 build comes out wifi will work.

Me too...but maybe its HTC's issue with the need for an updated driver...I have no idea.

that seems most likely mainly as there was no problem when updating to 8 gdr3 when it was prereleased this could be for many reason but I assume it was because they didnt change any wifi code. In 8.1 alot of new wifi features which most likely require some minor code changes. From what I remember reading 8.1 is supposed to be released in june so hopefully not much longer to wait for a

The newest WP8.1 DP update that went out last week not only still failed to fix W-Fi, but is also now causing random reboots that used to only occur while Wi-Fi was on.

The update last week fixed my WiFi temporarily. For a few wonderful days, I had WiFi constantly on with no restarts or power button delay. Then early last weekend it reverted to how it used to be. A few hours later the problem went away, and WiFi was fine for a few days, but since last night it's been giving me issues. So close...
