HTC Apps?

i've never seen that before, that's crazy cheap

I know it's a great price...but for some reason this weekend it did not happen. First time in a while. It's great because you have 30 days to watch them.

Last few rounds I got:

Kung Fu Panda 2
Contagion
Dont Be Afraid of the Dark
London Boulevard
Take Shelter
J. Edgar

Looks like its only another $50, now!

All of those 3rd party apps are currently exclusive to Nokia? Thats crazy. Nokia must have spent tons of money on those exclusives! I actually thought that most of their unique stuff was built by Nokia, but now that I see all of those 3rd party apps I am a little concerned about segmentation. I mean, they basically took a bunch of the top apps across any platform.

No worries, almost all of the non Nokia-branded apps will be available to everyone after the exclusives expire. The time frame varies a lot though, a couple are just 90 days, others are 1 year or 2 years even. It's a nice perk if you buy a Nokia, but it's not going to destroy the Windows Phone app universe (despite what some people say lol)

How well does augmented reality work in general? Is it something you would regularly use or is it more of something that is cool for awhile, but then you just use maps?

Say you want to go to the TriBeCa neighborhood in Manhattan. You might use Nokia Drive to find your way to the train station, then use Nokia Transit to figure out which subway to take to get there. Then once you're actually standing on the sidewalk in TriBeCa you could use Nokia City Lens to get a visual representation of what restaurants and attractions are right around you. Rather than just reading off a list, you'd hold the phone up and the camera actually "sees" exactly where you are and super imposes icons for the restaurants and attractions around you ON the screen, then you can tap to learn more or get directions. It's more of a gimmick to play around with than a necessity, but it's very cool and it's a certainty we'll see the technology become more and more capable and useful as time goes on.

Here's a video that shows how it works:

The way the Nokia version of the Caddy+ app will work is similar. You will be able to hold the phone up on the golf course and it will give you relevant information about the hole you're playing, i.e. distance to the hole, 3D and aerial maps of where you are in position to the green, the hole etc, as well as keeping track of score for you and other functions.

scansearch and wikitude do the same crap as lens....and honestly, I've not found a single AR app that's blown me away.

They provide several apps that I find useful. Here is a list of the ones I have used:

HTC Hub-news, weather, stocks, etc
Connected Media- dlna type app
Watch- for buying and renting movies and shows
Locations- Nav offline and online
Dock Mode- as name implies
Photo Enhancer-as name implies
Lists- " "
Notes- " "
Flashlight- led flashlight app
Compass
Calculator

There are a couple others that I have not used.
