I am also disappointed to note that somehow WP fans are also a fragmented lot. Has Nokia offended some non-Nokia users, perhaps.

One thing Nokia did do wrong in the past was limiting their flagship phone (Lumia 900) to one single carrier in the US. I was all ready to switch from Android to WP7 but didn't want to leave T-Mo for AT&T. The way things are looking for the 920 is that it's going to be another exclusive (or at least not on all the major carriers).

Nokia didn't "offend" me at all. I just couldn't buy their phone, so I got a Galaxy Nexus instead. No big deal. Now that WP8 is about to launch and OEMs are releasing some sweet new hardware, I'm trying to make the switch again. The 8X and Ativ S are confirmed for T-Mobile. Nokia is still silent.

I think all 3 companies have some pro's

Lumia 920 - purview video, sensitive touch.
8X - dedicated image chip, Beats.
ATIV S - Larger screen, removable battery, SD slot.

all and all it will be good to have choice in the WP market.

That sounds sad. It must suck to be in the US market and phones get exclusive. Singapore has such problems too, but it isn't as bad, the exclusivity period.

I do not agree with Nokia's strategy IF they just do exclusive deals too. Still, Lumia 900 seems like a beta test in more ways than 1 (hate the marketing). But the virtues of the 920 seems like the best bet for any WP device now. And that's why I hope Verizon and T-Mobile will get the L920 so people will have more choices.

Oh, c'mon Nokia fans. Seriously, the "bristling at all criticism" thing is getting VERY old.

Back atcha. The incessant hammering on all things Nokia is getting just as old.

I could give a rat's hiney which device anyone gets - and all this ridiculous backbiting serves nothing.

Most of us have only seen pictures and spec sheets, yet lines are drawn in the sand.

The in-fighting on this forum is getting unbearable. The WP community is too small for this crap. Be excited that there are finally some quality devices coming and the effect it will have on the ecosystem and save the bickering for when we have decent marketshare

I won't make up my mind on a device until I see it, touch it and try it. Retailers take note: working display devices will sell themselves.

I agree. I don't know why certain people gotta take digs at Nokia.

Me personally, I'm not even a hardcore Nokia fan. In fact I'm thinking of actually going with the ATIV S, and I'm glad as a whole HTC is putting something pretty decent out there.

As for being in defense of Nokia it's because I'm impressed with Nokia's effort on WP as a whole. When posts like the OP's that get made come off as just ridiculous. I don't think it's something that's subjective either. I mean one can't really deny the amount of effort that Nokia, as a whole, is placing into WP and the hardware.

I will say that HTC has made some improvements over their offerings in the past (e.g. dedicated gpu, amp, FFC with wider viewing angle, higher PPI screen) though, but the level of commitment is still short of Nokia's. Maybe HTC's effort will get just as good as time progresses, in which case great. If it surpasses Nokia, then I'll believe that the OP has merit.

Well for me I just want to see Nokia succeed and not fail and follow RIM into the history books. When you see them make stupid mistakes its incredibly frustrating as a fan of the platform and of the company. Especially when that company feels it needs to take digs at other OEM's when they themselves oughta be worrying about the fact they did screw up and how to fix it.

HTC seemed like it generate a large amount of excitement if not more and people were actually thankful they know they have at least one option open to them since Nokia can't announce anything on those fronts.

Either way we are all going to be winners because serious competition will only help the consumer and keep OEM's from being lazy

Frankly if the forums were all about sitting there holding hands and singing kumbuya it would feel too much like the Apple forums.

HTC also has a proven camera, not hopes and dreams like the floating lens technology and other gimmicks. I rather trust HTC in the camera department.

Fact: Nokia hasn't had a decent camera in any Windows Phone
HTC had the best camera in a Windows Phone ( Titan2)

Good to know HTC stepped up.

Still I am going Nokia. The support Nokia has is good, and its hardware innovations are there at the top.

God no, no I can't abide that pollyanna "let's all be friends" crap and people can ram "the community" up their pipe - those are mobile phones made by companies none of business work us for or have a personal stake in - unless people stray into personal insults then it should always be open season in terms of critiques of the phones, the companies and their relative strengths and weaknesses.

Otherwise this place will end up like webos nation (before it became a ghost town and the mods effectively gave up) where it was decreed that you were no longer able to 'debate' things.

There's debates and then there's flaming, where people carry over the same argument into numerous topics as if we didn't hear them the first time. You post on Crackberry,so you see how a new topic is made each day about someone's own prediction about how rim will fail. That becomes annoying to supporters that frequent here.

That is a fair point.

I can look at the ATIV or the 8X both are better than the L820.....NO nOKIA HAND ME DOWNS for not being on AT&T

Hold ya horses. While AT&T will get the phone for some time, I doubt that Nokia will want to restrict the flagship for too long given how other companies have stepped up massively. Nokia needs phones out there everywhere too.
