Supposedly, First Energy has upgraded since the big blackout on 14 August 2003 that was their fault.

ELECTRICITY: A decade after the Northeast blackout, reliability increases but human issues persist -- Monday, August 12, 2013 -- www.eenews.net

However, I'm not so sure. Around 22:45 GMT -5 on 15 January 2014, my power went out. It was restored around 01:10 GMT -5 on 16 January 2014. We do not have any bad weather here. There is no rain, sleet or snow.

I also lost my power last month during the day. I'm not sure how long it was out, since I wasn't home when it was restored. There wasn't any bad weather that day either.

There's been some big solar flares lately. That last big one that hit us on January 9th effected my outside electronic thermometer. It's been showing it's 47 degrees hotter outside than it actually is. I've reset it and changed the battery, but it's still 47 degrees off. :amaze:
