If I switch carriers, and take my phone

With me, how will it receive updates? I have a 920 and am looking to switch to straight talk. Just wondering how it will be updated if no longer on AT&T.

If phone is carrier locked, they still control updates. If it is SIM free, they don't control it.

Updates are based on tthe carrier branding, not the SIM lock.
