If one OS wins, do we all lose?

WP, iOS, Android, BB10, and further afield, Asha OS, Sailfish, Firefox OS, Ubuntu Mobile etc... They all have their place and they all have -a- place in the mobile world. One size doesn't fit all, and one massively dominant leader (aka, "winner") would be damaging. People seem to forget that pro-capitalist pro-corporate governments still try to stop monopolies for very good reasons :)

A Lumia 925 crammed with LTE, that costs 5 months wages and needs to be charged every night isn't a great choice for someone living in one of the economically poor African nations. But an Asha 501 that thats a fifth of he price, uses their ubiquitous 2g networks and that only has to be charged once a week is going to seem a far better bet.

My personal favourites are WP and iOS (and my favourite phones are the Lumia 620 and iPhone 5 - very different devices indeed), but then I am rich (in world terms - and extremely average in terms of my country) and living in Europe with access to DC-HSDPA and LTE, with power networks that almost never fail ;)

Whats right for me isn't necessarily what's right for anyone else.

So, what phone do you have, why is it great for you, and what would make it a bad choice for someone else? Serious question...

That pretty much sums it up really with little else to add. However, Nokia have got it right with their range of feature phones that are ideal for emerging markets which iPhones are not. Apple are seriously overcharging for their products but what do they care, they don't pay tax to anyone thanks to a clever loophole in the Irish tax system.

MS are beginning to gain a foothold (thanks to Nokia and their entry level WP 8 Lumias') in the emerging markets and should do better than those horrible budget Android phones in the same price range.

I currently have a Lumia 920 and a Galaxy S 3 which suits my budget and what I like and expect from a smart phone but they aren't necessarily right for everyone else.
