I'm new at this

So I've had my windows phone for a long time, originally had just the samsung focus but then jumped up to the samsung focus S. I'm not what you would call a real techy guy and i really want to crack my S so i can make new themes and what not for my tiles etc. Can you guys give me any tips in a dumbed down version? Much appreciated
