That's pretty lame, the included USB cable can only charge, when I plug it into my Surface Pro 3. As soon as I swap it out with my Nokia USB, voil?! My Surface will detect my HTC right away. Took me a while to discover that, at first I thought some driver or HTC phone issue.

Why HTC ship your phone with a lame USB cable???

You need either the modern or desktop sync app to 'sync' with a Windows Phone. When you connect, the phone should show up in File Manager as a device/disk, allowing you to directly copy docs and media. The appropriate folders will be visible and obvious, under the device. If the phone has an SD card it will show that as a separate folder from the phone itself, under the phone. If you go to Windowsphone.com and click How-To, one of the topics is syncing, and has links for you. In the store on the Surface just search for Windows Phone.

I have those apps(modern and desktop) and was wondering why it didn't detect my phone. I swapped USB cable and it worked immediately. USB cable fault.
