Internet Explorer does not shut down completely

Been having some battery "issues" with my Lumia Icon, and cannot find what is causing it since when I first got the phone I was getting around 2 days on a full charge. Now I only get around a day with random drops. As I continue my hunt, one thing I've noticed is that IE keeps the last webpage I visited open at all times (for instance, when I open it up, the last webpage is immediately there...no loading or anything), even when the app is exited. I don't recall this occurring on my 8X. Could this lead to battery drain?

I habitually close the tab before exiting IE. I don't know if it actually makes a difference.
