Do you guys think we will ever see an update that allows iphone users to respond to texts via band? I understand why windows phone users can only do that because it's microsoft and it just makes sense. However, wouldn't it be smart to allow iphone users the same luxury? It could possibly deter more people away from the apple watch. Thoughts?

Depends where the limitation lies....
But I reckon the smart money would be on it being Apple not allowing iOS to offer that functionality.

Its not possible via the iOS SDK. However, 3rd party apps like google hangouts or facebook messenger or Skype-texting could implement this feature!

iOS's messaging system is too locked down to allow a 3rd party device to access it though. Pretty upsetting. Thats one of the main reasons why people Jailbreak.

Yes I figured there would be some kind of limit for something to block it. I would have definitely gotten an iwatch if it was around the same price as this. But I'm fine with this for now. Thanks for the replies

As a ex iOS developer and now WP Dev, I can confirm it is a limitation of the Apple SDK. I don't see them adding the relevant API's any time soon.

So it's not possible with the band as it is today, however couldn't someone develop an app that allows people to send messages from their band to either someone's phone or band? Maybe not like texting, but like someone else said from a third party app. That should be doable.

Probably. But there's the "uptake" problem. It'd have to be worthwhile for a developer and getting enough users to cross a threshold whereby it's usable is likely to be the hard part. Services like WhatsApp etc, managed it (despite all sorts of concerns and constant spamming of users), but it may not be a repeatable phenomenon for such a limited (in terms of numbers of units) device.
