iPhone 5 or Windows Phone 8

For games and the hot apps it's iphone all the way. One negative the iphone 5 on Verizon has for me is it can't do voice and data at the same time except on wifi. This is something most Verizon customers probably don't use a lot, but when the rest of Verizon's 4G phones are capable of this on 4G and some on 3G this is a negative for me. For the most part even though I think the iphone is a quality device I prefer WP. If you have any doubts about your choice of the iphone go to your local store and play with it in person.

I don't think that's an iPhone restriction, I think that's just Verizon's network. I've never heard of someone on Verizon begin able to use data and voice at the same time, 3G or 4G. I have a non-iPhone VZW smartphone right now and I've never been able to do it.

The problem is that no one wants a BlackBerry anymore, and everyone wants BYOD. As someone who works in IT as well, I know how much of a PITA that is. SCCM 2012 does remedy that some, but SCCM 2012 plus WP8 is supposed to be a great combination. All we need is to find a way to make WP8 devices appealing to those who want to bring in their iPhones and Android devices.

So you feel that WP8 will be adopted in the corporate environment?

Does anybody think Windows 8 tablets will be adopted in schools and businesses such as the iPad is now?

Yes. Students. will likely get RT tablets. since I has Office 2013. and Teachers will take time to upgrade to Windows 8. but there will likely be trials for them. and for businesses. Oh yes. My uncles's work has ordered more than 100 tablet. most are Samsung Ativ SmartPCs since MS surface is not coming yet.

As a student I find it very common that I need to watch a video while typing something or typing while getting it off of IE. One thing I'm love about Windows 8, all platforms is the snap-in feature (I believe it's called that). I can type an email while looking at the price of something online or watch my homework video while doing my homework, it's almost killing the need for dual monitors.

Guess you've never met a real blackberry fan. They are loyal. Also, try going to crackberry.com and ask do they want a new BlackBerry.

Ask this on w Windows PHone fan blog? Hmmm.

But in all in all, depends on your needs. Is this your first iPhone? If it is, I'm sure you'll like it. But on the other hand, it's still the same OS that's been around for what seems like decades.

WP8 is fresh looking. Nothing out there looks like it. It's a new take on what a phone OS should look like and function. You won't be disappointed in WP8 if you do choose it. Unless you absolutely need all the big time apps right now. I'm sure that'll change soon though.
I recently ordered an iPhone 5 and it's on backorder. Windows Phone 8 is really starting to impress me how it integrates with all other Microsoft products. I am not heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem so that isn't a big deal to me. I previously had a HTC Trophy, loved the OS but the phone quality was pretty crappy.

So what I am asking is if it were you would you go with an iPhone 5 or one of the ruomred Windows 8 Phones that are coming to Verizon and why? Also, there aren't any 'big name' apps yet on the Windows Store (i.e. Twitter and the Facebook app needs a lot of help) do you think the number of 'big name' apps will be quickly available for Windows Phone 8?

Thanks for all the help.

I would think so, but I don't know when. The iPad has been around for a few years now. My wife's mother teachers 7th grade English and as of NEXT school year, fall 2013, all of the students will be required to have iPads. Instead of renting textbooks from the school, they will be renting/given an iPad.

She's not looking forward to it. She has all of her lesson plans mapped out after teaching the same courses for years. Her classes run like a well oiled machine. But this is the future I suppose. She now has to figure out how to convert all of her paper and book materials onto the iPad, which may prove more challenging then one would hope.

Also, I worry about teachers needing to be IT in a classroom as well as a teacher. Give a teacher a blackboard, a book, and some handouts and it's easy to teach a class. Give every student in the class a top of the line piece of electronics, and force a teacher who was not raised in the technology age and therefore takes a lot longer to learn and adapt to the new technologies to teach with it, and I fear that the classroom will slow down considerably.

But this is way off topic for the OP. As I said earlier, I would get a WP8 :-D

I assume you've never had an iPhone and have to deal with it's annoying issues. Not to mention iTunes. There's plenty wrong with the iPhone. That's why I gave it the boot and swore not to go back until something new came out. I left after trading my iPhone 4 for a Samsung Focus, and I've yet to see any reason to go back.

All OS have their problems, I had plenty of problems with my two Optimus 7. But the iphone is simple to use, great update program and have a boat load of apps. Hard not to recommend.

Actually I have had both iPhone 4 and 4S, the only problems I ever had was with the home button. The OS was simple and it just seems iOS has peaked on users and isn't growing....just has loyal customers. I just wanted opinions on what people thought on WP8 and how they thought growth would be with typical users and corporate

dude. that's just your phone. not everybody else's

My post was a reply to the one above it. I guess I should have quoted him.

Their updating scheme is the best, hands down. I think WP7 is just as easy to use. The apps is the biggest selling point. I've yet to see a major app that didn't get released for iOS first, if not shortly after. ****, most non-major apps go to the iPhone first.

I take it you have AT&T, I ordered mine through Apple with Verizon and Applecare. I am worried if I cancel that I will not get my refund for Applecare and that my upgrade on my account will be used up and I will not be able to order and WP8.

Yes, AT&T. Also neglected to mention that I have an iPhone 4 & when I upgraded my wife I also upgraded my kids to 4S'. We share an iTunes acct so I see firsthand how useless many of these apps really are...

I understand where you're coming from but at some point you hope people will try to be honest, it's very hard to find a non biased tech site.

A little off topic, but after conversing on dozens of tech sites around the net, wpcentral members seem to be the most mature/positive. It's quite refreshing to be here. :)
