Irony: nexus orb charger is horrible w/my nexus 4, but great with my 920

I got one of google's pricey orb wireless chargers for my nexus 4 because I liked the way it (in theory) keeps the phone tilted for easier use while it's charging.

Here's the unexpected turn of events: I hate using it with my nexus 4. It s-l-o-w-l-y slips down the charger until it's far enough down that it is no longer charging, but the screen stays on, so the net effect is it discharges faster than ever. If I press it down firmly it has a better chance of staying on it, but it's a crap shoot whether it still slides off or stays on. End result: I'm no longer bothering to use my nexus 4 with it.

But, my Lumia 920 works like a champ with it! Despite being a "heavy" phone it stays on it perfectly with no sliding, charges up quickly, and I love using it on it while it's charging because it does what I was hoping it would do: make the phone screen easier to see and use while it's charging because it's at a decent angle.

One note: I use my 920 "naked" so have no idea how well it would grip if you had any form of protective film or case on it.

That's really interesting, who would of thought. Maybe Google wants to make accessories for the 920. :grincry:

Nothing ironic here, though you yanks are rather famous for misunderstanding the word!

How much is the Orb? Could you take some photos of the 920 on it?

The Nexus 4 is damn slippery. It slides off the Nokia wireless charging plate as well.....and charges very badly even if I tape it to the charger. Nokia FTW!

One of the meanings of irony: "an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected."

I'd say this applies to my situation, which is why I chose the word. :)

Orb is a bit pricey, $60. Photo of Lumia on orb:

Thanks for the info, I was looking forward for a confirmation on this, as I too, like the angle of the Nexus Wireless charger better than Nokia's charging plate.

I wonder if the non-glossy Black and Cyan Lumia 920 also "sits" comfortably on that charger similar to the Glossy Red one that you own.

Off topic. Every time I see this word I knew a British guy will come up and say something. But honestly I still do not understand the problem. But hey, English is not my native.

Heh. Yeah, my Nexus 4 won't charge well on the Nokia charging plate. Lumia 920 works great on it. As far as slippery, sheesh, the Nexus 4 is slickest phone I've ever seen. I've had it just ease it's way off of tables, chairs, heck just about everything I lay it on. I have to keep my good eye on it or BAM, it's on the floor.

That's brill, I'm not a fan of the fact the Nokia wireless charger is just flat, would like it facing me so I can use it while it's propped up on my desk.

Though I might just build / "MacGyver" something like that.

Cool, Google makes a good wireless charger for the Nokia :-) Hey at least one piece of Google hardware that does not spy on you :-)

I have the cyan matte 920 and the nexus orb works perfectly with it. I use it at work where I like to see the screen. Never slips at all. I bought it because I liked the angle better than the flat plate that came with my 920. I use that one next to my bed where I don't need to look at it.
