Issues with Dock with External Monitor

I am trying to connect my Surface Book via the dock to an Acer 27" Touchscreen Monitor. When I plug in the mini-display port into the dock, the monitor screen never turns on, but it seems that the Surface Book goes into a loop identifying that there is an external monitor now attached. On display properties, I will see options for having the second monitor (Display on screen 1, screen 2, both, etc...) and then the Surface Book screen goes black. When it comes back on, it does not show the second display options anymore. This cycle repeats.

Specifics:
Acer Touchscreen Monitor 27" (model number T272HL bmjjz)
Using an Dock --> Mini-display port adapter for HDMI --> HDMI cable --> monitor (the monitor does not support mini-display port)

I've tried using different HDML cable and a different mini-display port HDMI converter. During the split second when the second display is detected, I tried changing the resolution, but I can never hit save in time before the Surface Book screen goes black.

I did see this issue posted on an article:
"Dell 34″ U-Wide cannot be used with the dock. Screen goes black every 2-3 minutes for 10 seconds or so"

I'm wondering if my monitor is another case, though I wish I could even get my second display to come on.

I have the same Acer monitor you do that I currently use with my Surface Pro 3 dock. I'll try hooking up my new Surface Book to it and see if I have the same issue. Then at least we might know if its the monitor or something else.

I found the issue! Though, I think it's too bad.

I had the Surface Book display connected to the keyboard body backwards (writing mode?). I did this so that I could slide the keyboard under the Acer which is hanging on a monitor stand and just have the Surface Book tablet facing me with the Acer monitor hanging above it. Turns out, the dock (or Surface Book?) doesn't seem to like that. If I dock the Surface Book with the tablet in laptop mode, the Surface Book will properly detect the Acer as a second monitor.

This is too bad. I'd be interested to hear if others have success using the dock, external monitors, and having the Surface Book tablet connected in backwards.

I have the Surface Book and the new Dock. I haven't had any issues with charging the Book with the docking station and using the Ethernet connection. I mistakenly purchased the wrong DisplayPort cables (fulltime instead of the required mini). Allegedly the new cables come tonight and I can try and see if I will have the same issues with the monitors (I have two a 23" HP 1080p and an older Dell that is more than 720p but less than 1080p)

Sorry I didn't get a chance to test this until today, but my SB is working fine with the Acer monitor. I use a mini displayport to DVI adapter. Then again, I don't have the screen on backwards, either. Though it seems to work great, I think I'm going to be changing out my secondary display. The SP3 fit great behind the monitor, but the book plus the 27" monitor is just too big for my desk!
