I updated my 85-year-old Dad's L930 to W10M over the past weekend for him.

The first thing he said about it was that it didn't look any different. Which is good as his home screen tile layout is set up so everything is nice and easy for him.

I've just spoken with him this morning and the second thing he said about the update was that the keyboard's word predictions are rubbish.

I had to agree with him. WM8.1's predictions were always pretty accurate whereas W10M's are, and I'm being kind here, bonkers!

What have Microsoft done to their prediction engine? If an 85-year-old notices, that should be a wake-up call for anyone!

i agree with you, word predictions are messed up after the windows 10 update. Windows phone 8.1 was quick to learn new words but windows 10 keyboard still isn't reliable. Lets hope it is fixed and dont forget to upvote in the feedback hub ;)

Yeah predictions suck plus they get f'd up if you switch your input technique from regular to swipe and so on. Then they completely stop working. They also used to be updated dynamically with each letter but ever since RS1 it doesn't work anymore.

I smashed my 950 a few months ago and have been having fun trying out older windows phones I never got a chance to use when they came out while I wait for the Idol Pro 4 or Surface Phone(Please universe let one of these not be vaporware) I just ordered a 930 and have read a lot about a firmware update or Win10 causing the microphones to stop working. Can you find out from your dad if he can still use Cortana and record audio since updating to win10? I'm a little worried I may have bought a useless phone...

maybe the words you always type on 8.1 was deleted ... so you have to spend time typing on w10 for it to give you more appropriate predictions

Does he have any problem with battery?

I've been using mine for a couple weeks now and the battery seems to be functioning as expected for a 3 year old phone. My only issue is that I'm using it on Tmobile so that means no LTE and if you're not in an area that has the refarmed ATT towers the phone is basically not usable. I picked up a 550 as well and I switch my sim into that if I'm in state or area that doesn't have the right towers. Overall I love the phone. The camera is incredible and I haven't had any issues with the mics.
