And no, this did not deserve it's own thread.
But this one is different. It's a ME ME ME thread. MS did this to ME!
Now stop being self-centered Figure 8 Dash and let the man have his thread.
And no, this did not deserve it's own thread.
Maybe if you changed your mentality to that of the perpetual "victim", you'd have a better chance of understanding.
HOLY CRAP MICROSOFT JUST SCREWED UP BIG TIME!!!!
They are making a new OS that won't run on my 3 year old phone.
That does it. I'm going to show them. I will never buy the phone I like again, I will switch to another platform I don't like as much, to punish them. That will show them!
While I see the points made in that article those people who recently purchased, on a 2 year contract (!), a Windows Phone don't really care if Windows CE is over a decade old, most likely they don't even know what Windows CE is or why it had to be abandoned. What they care is that they got a phone a short time ago which "won't get the new update and won't get the new apps". Most don't read blogs/tech news/forums so this is the message which they'll get from the mainstream media. For Microsoft not so much of a problem, but potentially devastating for Nokia who is already struggling.
What I see is, developers will try to make use of the multicore capabilities of WP8. With this, you can not develop an app for both WP8 and 7.x and they'll will probably be developing those new apps on a WP8 device later this year. You just can't develop a multicore app on WP7.x. The android boys now have something to laugh at....FRAGMENTATION....welcomed at last.
What happens after WP7.8 upgrade? NOTHING? DEAD END I guess. Your fresh Lumia 900 is obsolete now.
So answer me this. I saw this number on another post. There are 12+ million Windows Phones out there.
There are zero WP8 and W8 devices out there.
Is a developer going to create an app that only runs on the new platform and ignore the old one that has millions of users?
Don't you think the prospect of knowing there could be a crap ton of WP8 and W8 devices out would maybe motivate developers like Instragram and Pandora to go ahead and create an app that will work on WP7.x now knowing it will work on WP8 when it launches?
People are still buying the old iPhone 4 even though it doesn't have Siri and will not get turn by turn navigation. People are clueless.![]()
Do people even know that the word "obsolete" means?![]()
Sigh....Yeah, because the 3Gs is 3 years old. Most people got their Lumias in the last two months. There's an enormous difference.
Why are you still believing you are only paying $99?
What about my contract? Can you take over the contract so I can move on to iPhone or Android? I still have 22 months left, that's 22 * $70 = $1540.
You can't do that either, that's the other extreme. The $1540 is for cell phone service, not the phone. I know buying the phone locks you into the contract, but that doesn't make the cost of the phone $1540, unless you're saying your cell phone service is free.
At most, the cost of the phone is what you paid for it + the ETF, which would rid you of your contract. Alternatively, you can stay in contract and pay full price for an iPhone or Android device (or even better, get a lightly used one for less).
There is a difference between not getting (some) features or in the future not getting app developed for your platform. And let's face is, despite the (imo great) integration of wp7, a smartphone is about the apps. And unlike iOS or Android the WP8 apps are planned to work on Windows 8 too thus being a large incentive for app devs to make the best possible apps for these platforms. Which in turn decreases motivation to create apps for wp7 devices.People are still buying the old iPhone 4 even though it doesn't have Siri and will not get turn by turn navigation. People are clueless.![]()
I got mine for free
Off contract too.
Socialcarpet, don't bother posting until you know your history. Microsoft is notorious for requiring hardware upgrades to use new software. This is historical fact. This latest move shows they haven't changed one bit. Very disappointing.
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express
I had my expectations very very low for this event but they still managed to disappointed me.
Windows Phone 7 is dead, dead like webOS and meego. Good luck getting new apps or games or any kind of support. Our phones have no future, this update system makes Google look like Apple.
The 900 is basically useless right now ( I don't feel bad for Nokia, since they love their dead OS 's like Symbian and meego), though it's still a better deal than the N9 and 808.
They even went as far as ruining the only thing the OS had going for it, the main screen. It now looks worse than even the crappiest 100 bucks android than grandma has.
